Wolverhampton vs. Chelsea MW 18 Preview

Tough game expected.

Chelsea travel to Molineux to play Wolves for MW 18 of the Premier League season. Wolves sit 8th in the table and have done pretty well this season given where they finished last season. Bruno Lage had a tough time to start the season mainly because they were playing attacking football but just not scoring goals. Wolves did begin to score goals but have fallen off recently once again. Recent losses to City, Liverpool preceded a win during the week. Wolves sit 5 points behind Arsenal who are 4th so there isn’t a massive gap. Lage is doing well and the losses against City and Liverpool were narrow 1 nils. It’s a positive start for sure.

Chelsea go into this game sitting in 3rd having won 2 of our last 5 games. The wins have alternated with dropping points so based on the current trend this game should be a win. We now find ourselves 3 points behind Liverpool who face a trip to Conte’s Spurs so there is a chance to make up some ground if we beat Wolves. The problem is that our defensive resilience seems to have vanished in thin air. We seem to always concede lately and haven’t kept a clean sheet in 5 games in the league. Goal scoring wise we have done relatively well and only have one less goal than the free scoring Man City. Injuries and Covid have not helped either and Tuchel isn’t being able to pick a regular XI to create momentum. Big teams find solutions though but the solution is that Chelsea just need to put those finishing boots on and score. Tuchel put out the perfect team to beat Everton during the week and we should have finished the game in the 1st half but we did not finish our chances. We need to start keeping clean sheets again and we need to start winning our games. Wolves are strong defensively but have only scored 2 goals in their last 7 games. Chelsea cannot be charity FC in this game and we need to finish our chances and win this one.

Chelsea Team Preview

Jorginho, and RLC are the new doubts after having pains. Lukaku, Werner, Hudson-Odoi, and Chilwell remain out, Havertz did not test positive for Covid and is back in contention. Kovacic, and Kante are back but they will be rusty and will need to get back to the flow of things. Mendy should be in goal with a back three of Chalobah, Christensen, and Rudiger. James, and Azpilicueta should start as the wing backs with Kovacic, and Mount in midfield. Pulisic, Ziyech, and Havertz should start up front for Chelsea. Again it’s a solid lineup and we have options as far as centre backs go but apart from that nothing. As a starting XI it is a good one and we should beat them.

Wolverhampton Team Preview

I expect Sa to start in goal with a back three of Kilman, Coady, and Saiss. Semedo and Ait-Nouri should start as the wing backs with a midfield of Neves and Dendoncker. Traore, Jimenez, and Hwang should start up front. It is a solid Wolves lineup and the likes of Ait-Nouri have impressed me this season. The midfield is very good while the attack has plenty of pace and power. Hwang has been a good signing but lately the goals have not been flowing. Clean sheets have been coming for Wolves though. Against City and Liverpool they took the game to the teams and gave them problems but those teams pulled through thanks to a clutch goal from Origi and a penalty that Stering scored which should not have been a penalty.

Wolves have given teams problems this season and considering Chelsea’s recent form we need to turn up and finish our chances. Chelsea are playing well but we aren’t taking our chances and that combined with us suddenly conceding goals means that we are dropping points. A clean sheet and a win will be welcome and 3 points is what matters. Based on the current trend this should be a win but Chelsea need to finish those chances. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
