Weekend Football Preview

Why does the International break exist?!

Premier League MW 12

Cardiff City vs. Brighton

Cadiff City narrowly lost to Leicester last week as they look to add a second win of the season against a decent Brighton side. Brighton were comfortably beaten by Everton last week but Cardiff are better opponent for them to challenge. Brighton do tend to do poorly away from home and Cardiff could come away with a win or at least a point.

Huddersfield vs. West Ham

Huddersfield beat Fulham last weekend to get their first win of the season and will look to build upon that victory with a win over tougher opponents. West Ham beat Burnley last weekend and having finally clicked they could notch another three points against Huddersfield.

Leicester vs. Burnley

Leicester will look to continue their positive form against a poor Burnley side who continue to ship in the goals home and away. In current form and with Leicester playing their first game at home since the tragic events from two weeks ago there is probably going to be one winner and that is Leicester.

Newcastle vs. Bournemouth

Newcastle also managed their first win of the season against an inform Watford side while they face a similar stern test in Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth. Bournemouth have been flying high and sit 6th in the table and if Newcastle could manage a point or more from this game it would be a positive result for them.

Southampton vs. Watford

Watford will look to bounce back from their shock defeat to Newcastle by winning against a poor Southampton side. Southampton are at home but Watford should be too much for them based on current form. Watford should return to winning ways.

Crystal Palace vs. Tottenham

Tottenham will look to continue their decent form by winning a London derby against Palace. Palace lost to Chelsea last weekend but still caused them problems with the likes of Zaha being a constant threat. A tough game that on paper should go Tottenham’s way but it could be a draw.

Liverpool vs. Fulham

Liverpool begin Super Sunday as they welcome Fulham to Anfield. Fulham have been poor and another loss could throw Jokanovic’s position into serious doubt if it is not already. Liverpool surprisingly lost to Red Star mid week and they will look to reply back by maintaining their form in the league.

Arsenal vs. Wolverhampton

Arsenal drew with Liverpool last weekend and drew midweek against Sporting Lisbon as they welcome Wolves this weekend. Wolves started the season off brilliantly but have been poor in recent weeks but a trip to Arsenal is a good way to regain some form as the Gunners defence is still shaky. Arsenal will look to regain their momentum form this game as well.

Man City vs. Man United

A packed Super Sunday comes to a close with a certain Manchester Derby as Pep faces off against Mourinho. This fixture last year showcased a brilliant United comeback and this iteration should be no less fiery. City are flying high thrashing any side that comes their way while United are in good form having beaten Juventus away during the Champions League. A great game and hopefully City drop points.

La Liga MW 12

Atletico entertain Bilbao, Barcelona welcome Real Betis, Sevilla play Espanyol, and Real travel to Celta Vigo. A decent weekend in La Liga with potentially straight forward games for the major names involved.

Serie MW 12

Napoli travel to Genoa, Inter travel to Atlanta, and Juventus travel to Milan in an entertaining fixture.

Bundesliga MW 11

Monchengladbach travel to Werder Bremen, Bayer Leverkusen travel to RB Leipzig, Schalke travel to Frankfurt, and the main event comes from Dortmund as they play against Bayern. A brilliant weekend of German football ahead.

Ligue MW 13

Lyon travel to Guingamp, Marseille entertain Dijon, and Monaco welcome PSG. PSG should continue their brilliant form against a very poor Monaco side.

Weekend Football Review

An interesting week of football!

Premier League MW 11

Bournemouth 1 vs. 2 Man United

United continued their recovery this season as they came from behind to beat Bournemouth in extra time. Callum Wilson gave Bournemouth the lead in the 11th minute as they dominated play but missed several chances to inflict more damage on United. Martial then continued his scoring run by equalising in the 35th minute. The game seemed to be heading for a draw but Rashford popped up to seal three points for United in the 92nd minute. Bournemouth remain 6th while United move up to 7th only behind on goal difference.

Cardiff City 0 vs. 1 Leicester

Gray scored the only goal in the 55th minute as Leicester won their first game after the tragic events of last week. Leicester moved up to 10th with the win while Cardiff are now 19th in the table.

Everton 3 vs. 1 Brighton

Everton continued their impressive form with a dominant win over Brighton, Richarlison scored in either half with a Coleman goal in the middle while Brighton scored a consolation goal via Dunk in the 33rd minute. Everton are now 9th in the table while Brighton are 12th.

Newcastle 1 vs. 0 Watford

Newcastle surprisingly got their first win of the season against high flying Watford thanks to a goal from Perez in the 65th minute. The win does Newcastle a great deal of good as they move out of the relegation zone and into 17th while Watford drop down to 8th.

West Ham 4 vs. 2 Burnley

Burnley continued their poor form with another thumping loss against West Ham in London. Arnautovic scored in the 10th minute to give West Ham the lead but Gudmundsson equalised right before half time to bring Burnley back into the game. Anderson then restored the lead in the 65th minute only for Wood to score in the 77th minute to restore parity. Anderson scored his second in the 84th minute and Chicharito scored the fourth in the 92nd minute to seal the points for West Ham. West Ham move to 13th with the win while Burnley drop down to 15th.

Arsenal 1 vs. 1 Liverpool

In the clash of the weekend Arsenal and Liverpool played out a brilliant game and shared the points at the Emirates. Milner had given Liverpool the lead in the 61st minute but Lacazette equalised in the 82nd minute. Arsenal gave a good account of themselves during the game and were perhaps unlucky to only manage a point against Liverpool. Arsenal though drop down to 5th while Liverpool drop down to 3rd.

Wolverhampton 2 vs. 3 Tottenham

Wolves narrowly lost to Tottenham in the late game on Saturday. Lamela, Moura and Kane scored during the first and second half to give Tottenham a clear lead in 61 minutes but Wolves fought back with two penalties as Neves, and Jiminez scored late on. Tottenham moved into 4th with the win while Wolves dropped down into 11th continuing their poor run of form.

Man City 6 vs. 1 Southampton

City did what City do best as they thrashed Southampton at the Etihad with Sterling running the show. Hoedt kicked things off for City as he scored an own goal in the 6th minute to give them the lead, Aguero and David Silva then scored in quick succession but Ings brought one back in the 29th minute. Sterling then added two more and Sane finished Southampton off. City remained top of the table but are now two points clear while Southampton are now 16th.

Huddersfield 1 vs. 0 Fulham

Huddersfield joined Newcastle as they got their first win of the season thanks to a Mensah own goal in the 29th minute. Fulham have been really poor in recent weeks and drop down to the bottom of the table while Huddersfield moved up to 18th.

La Liga MW 11

Atletico drew away at Leganes, Real returned to winning ways by beating Valladolid 2-0, Barcelona narrowly beat Rayo Vallecano 2-3, and Sevilla drew away at Real Sociedad. Barcelona remain top of the table while Espanyol, Sevilla, and Atletico make up the top four.

Serie MW 11

Napoli thrashed Empoli 5-1, Inter thrashed Genoa 5-0, Juventus beat Cagliari 3-1, and Milan beat Udinese 0-1 in extra time. Juventus remain clear at the top of the table but while Inter, Napoli, and Milan make up the top four.

Bundesliga MW 10

Bayern drew with Freiburg 1-1, Dortmund beat Wolfsburg 0-1, and Hoffenheim beat Bayer Leverkusen 1-4. Dortmund lead the table with Monchengladbach, Bayern, and Leipzig making up the top four.

Ligue MW 12

PSG beat Lille 2-1, Lyon drew with Bordeaux 1-1, Monaco lost to Reims 1-0, and Marseille lost to Montpellier 3-0. PSG go 11 points clear at the top of the table while Montpellier, Lille, and Lyon make up the top four. Monaco drop down into 19th with Henry facing a grand task to restore Monaco’s form.

Weekend Football Preview

Exciting games ahead!

Premier League MW 11

Bournemouth vs. Man United

Football is fickle, two weeks ago Mourinho was going to get sacked but a string of decent wins and draws in the league has given United a new lifeline. Champions League struggles aside United have been getting points and Martial has created a new attacking threat upfront. Bournemouth have been brilliant this season and sit 6th in the league while United are 8th. This is a tough game for United and the type that usually brings Mourinho back down to earth. A win for United would take them level on points with Bournemouth but a win for Bournemouth could see them move to 4th and create a 6 point gap between them and United. A tough game but one Bournemouth could win.

Cardiff City vs. Leicester

Cardiff sit 17th in the table while Leicester sit 12th and play their first game since the tragic events of last weekend. While it will take a long time for Leicester fans and football as a whole to get over those events Leicester will need to concentrate on the football and getting three points in Wales would be a fitting way to pay tribute to Vichai. Cardiff have been decent over the last few weeks and could make it a tough outing for Leicester.

Everton vs. Brighton

Everton sit 9th in the table while Brighton are 11th, both teams have had decent season till now and Brighton even managed to beat Wolves last weekend while Everton lost to United. A close and entertaining game is expected, Brighton generally do a bit worse away from home while Everton play better at home.

Newcastle vs. Watford

Newcastle continue their journey to get their first win in the Premier League this season as Watford come to town. Watford sit 7th in the league and have been good this season, games have been a must win for Benitez for the last few months but in their current form they might need to wait another week for their first three points.

West Ham vs. Burnley

West Ham sit 13th in the table while Burnley are 15th, West Ham have had a mixed season but after a poor start they have started putting in decent performances. Burnley have been uncharacteristically poor this season and have shipped in plenty of goals. West Ham could get an important win against Burnley but Burnley will make it tough for them.

Arsenal vs. Liverpool

4th vs. 2nd, Arsenal have been flying high in recent months but their progress was halted by Palace last weekend while Liverpool have not slowed down this season. This perhaps the perfect test for Arsenal’s fans to see where their team is really at. An exciting game and one that I hope ends in a Liverpool defeat or a draw for both sides. The only concern remains Arsenal’s defensive fragility.

Wolverhampton vs. Tottenham

Wolves have dropped down to 10th in recent weeks as they have stagnated while Tottenham sit 5th in the table but seem to be facing struggles of their own at the moment. Wolves need a win to restore momentum for Santos, and Tottenham have been suspect this season. Wolves could get three points and it would be brilliant if they did while Tottenham need the three points to distract the fans from problems off the pitch.

Man City vs. Southampton

Man City sit top while Southampton are 16th, nothing more than a win is expected for Pep and his men.

Huddersfield vs. Fulham

Both sides struggling both sides needing a win, can Huddersfield finally get their first win of the season or will Fulham get their second.

La Liga MW 11

Atletico travel to Leganes, Real welcome Valladolid, Barcelona travel to Rayo Vallecano, Sevilla travel to Real Sociedad. Focus is on Real this weekend as they try to rebuild after a terrible start to the season and last weekend’s Classico thrashing.

Serie MW 11

Napoli entertain Empoli, Inter welcome Genoa, Juventus are at home against Cagliari, and Milan travel to Udinese. Juventus look to maintain their unbeaten start while the rest seek to keep pace with them.

Bundesliga MW 10

Bayern welcome Freiburg, Dortmund travel to Wolfsburg, Hoffenheim travel to play Bayer Leverkusen. Bundesliga is far more entertaining this season as several teams fight it out for the top four spot.

Ligue MW 12

PSG entertain Lille, Lyon welcome Bordeaux, Monaco travel to Reims as Henry searches for his first win, and Marseille go to Montpellier. At the moment PSG are running away with the league and for the rest the objective is to remain in touching distance of them.

Weekend Football Review

A great weekend of football!

Premier League MW 10

Brighton 1 vs. 0 Wolverhampton

A Murray goal in the 48th minute proved enough for Brighton as they held on to the lead for the points. It was a tough game but the win takes Brighton to 11th while Wolves are going through a slump in form as they drop down to 10th in the table.

Fulham 0 vs. 3 Bournemouth

Callum Wilson scored in each half and David Brooks scored the second as Bournemouth continued their brilliant form in the league this season. Bournemouth remain 6th in the table while Fulham move into the relegation zone as they sit 18th. Fulham now need to put in some proper defensive performance to fix their situation.

Liverpool 4 vs. 1 Cardiff City

Liverpool remained unbeaten as they beat Cardiff City comfortably at Anfield. Salah opened the scoring in the 10th minute and a Mane brace and Shaqiri goal came in the second half. Cardiff did add a consolation goal in the 77th minute via Paterson. Liverpool’s forwards seem to be hitting their stride now while their defence continues to be solid. Liverpool remain second on goal difference while Cardiff drop down to 17th.

Southampton 0 vs. 0 Newcastle

As predicted this was a draw as both teams cancelled each other out. Southampton remain 16th in the table with the point while Newcastle still search for their first win as they move to 19th in the table.

Watford 3 vs. 0 Huddersfield

Pereyra, Deulofeu, and Success scored to give Watford a good win against Huddersfield. Watford are playing well this season and have recovered their form in recent weeks. Watford remain 7th in the table while Huddersfield still winless move to the bottom of the table.

Leicester 1 vs. 1 West Ham

The Leicester game was overshadowed by the tragic scenes after the game as Vichai Leicester’s owner passed away as his helicopter crashed in the parking lot. Leicester managed to steal a point in the final minutes of the game via an Ndidi goal. Balbuena had earlier given West Ham the lead in the 30th minute. What Leicester achieved in the 15/16 season will never be forgotten and Vichai will remain a figure not just in Leicester’s history but football as a whole. Leicester dropped down to 12th while West Ham moved up to 13th.

Crystal Palace 2 vs. 2 Arsenal

Crystal Palace scored two penalties in the game as they stole three points from Arsenal in a balanced game between the two sides. Arsenal were their usual poor self in the first half and Milivojevic scored his first penalty right before the break to give Palace the lead. Xhaka then scored a brilliant free-kick to restore parity between the two sides in the 51st minute. Aubameyang then gave Arsenal the lead in the 56th minute but was perhaps fortunate as Lacazette’s hand ball was not seen. Zaha was then brought down by Xhaka and Milivojevic scored his second penalty to get Palace the point. Palace move to 14th with the draw while Arsenal end their winning streak but remain 4th in the table.

Man United 2 vs. 1 Everton

Pogba scored in the 27th minute as his comically taken penalty rebounded into his path. Martial then added a second in 49th minute while Sigurdsson scored a penalty in the 77th minute to give Everton some hope. United were not brilliant but the team seems to be fluctuating between decent and poor results as they move to 8th in the table while Everton drop to 9th.

Tottenham 0 vs. 1 Man City

On what was a shambles of a Wembley pitch a goal by Mahrez in the 6th minute proved enough for City to take the three points against Spurs. Tottenham missed several decent chances throughout the game but fell short. Pochettino seems to have taken this Spurs team as far as he could over the last few seasons and it has to be asked whether he should seek a new challenge elsewhere possibly at Real Madrid. City moved back to the top of the table as this title race does not appear to be slowing down.

La Liga MW 10

Atletico beat Real Sociedad 2-0, while Sevilla beat Huesca 2-1. The first El Clasico without Messi or Ronaldo in ages went Barcelona’s way as they thrashed Real 5-1. It is not that Barcelona dominated the game but Madrid collapsed under the weight of Lopetegui’s inevitable sacking and Barcelona took advantage. Lopetegui was sacked the next day and Solari takes charge as an interim manager as Madrid seek a proper replacement. Barcelona lead the table with Alaves, Sevilla, and Atletico Madrid making up the top four.

Serie MW 10

Juventus beat Empoli 1-2, Milan beat Sampdoria 3-2, Napoli drew with Roma 1-1, and Inter thrashed Lazio 3-0. Juventus remain unbeaten but the race for the top four is heating up as Inter move to second with Napoli, and Lazio in the next two spots.

Bundesliga MW 9

Bayern beat Mainz 1-2 as they continued their return to form, Dortmund drew with Hertha Berlin 2-2, and Leipzig drew with Schalke 0-0. Dortmund still lead the table with Bayern, Monchengladbach, and Werder Bremen making up the top four.

Ligue MW 11

Lyon beat Angers 1-2, Monaco drew with Dijon 2-2 as Henry still seeks his first win, and PSG beat Marseille 0-2 in the top of the table clash. PSG make it 11 out of 11 wins as they sit at the top of the table, Lille are 8 point behind in second while Montpellier, and Lyon make up the top four.

Weekend Football Preview

Football!!

Premier League

Brighton vs. Wolverhampton

Brighton seek their third consecutive victory in the league while Wolves seek to return to winning ways against the Seagulls. Brighton are 12th while Wolves are 9th and while Wolves are tough competition for the Seagulls Brighton have proved that they can beat anyone at home. An interesting and tough game between the two teams.

Fulham vs. Bournemouth

Fulham were thrashed by Cardiff last weekend and seek to get out of the relegation zone while Bournemouth drew against Southampton and aim to bridge the gap between them and Tottenham. Fulham and Jokanovic really need a win to boost morale but Bournemouth have had a decent season and pose ample threat to the Cottagers.

Liverpool vs. Cardiff City

Liverpool hope to sit at the top of the table with a win against Cardiff even though it might only be for a few days. Cardiff finally got their first win of the season but a trip to Anfield is always a tough task. Firmino, Salah, and Mane all scored midweek in the Champions League to get back into form and it could be a tough 90 minutes for the side from Wales.

Southampton vs. Newcastle

Southampton drew last weekend and sit 16th in the table while Newcastle still seek their first win and are bottom of the table. Southampton are a decent opponent for Newcastle if they want to finally win a game but an away trip is a slightly tougher task.

Watford vs. Huddersfield

Watford got back to winning ways against Wolves last weekend as they moved to 7th while Huddersfield lost to Liverpool and remain winless this season. Watford have had a decent season so far and Huddersfield might need to wait another week for their first win in the league.

Leicester vs. West Ham

Leicester lost to Arsenal last weekend as they sit 11th in the table while West Ham lost to Tottenham and sit 14th in the league. The teams have had mixed seasons so far and this should be an interesting game as the teams hope to break into the top ten.

Crystal Palace vs. Arsenal

Crystal Palace lost to Everton and sit 15th while Arsenal have been flying high as they sit 4th in the table. A tough trip to Selhurst Park for the Gunners but it should be another three points for Emery and his men.

Man United vs. Everton

United almost beat Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend and lost to Juventus mid week as they entertain Everton at Old Trafford. Everton have played well and sit 8th in the table as they try to add more misery to Mourinho. A tough game between the two teams.

Tottenham vs. Man City

5th vs. 1st as Spurs take on City at Wembley. Spurs have had a mixed season so far and they will have to wait until 2019 for their new stadium as City have been their usual self this season and look to inflict some damage to the London side.

La Liga MW 10

Atletico entertain Real Sociedad in a tough fixture while Sevilla welcome Huesca. The main fixture is the El Clasico the first in a very long time that will not have Messi or Ronaldo but it should be entertaining none the less.

Serie MW 10

Juventus travel to Empoli, Milan welcome Sampdoria, and the standout fixtures are Napoli vs. AS Roma, and Lazio vs. Inter. An interesting weekend of Italian football awaits.

Bundesliga MW 9

Bayern travel to Mainz, Dortmund play Hertha Berlin, and Leipzig play Schalke. Bayern aim to head back to the top while Dortmund look to remain there.

Ligue MW 11

Lyon travel to Angers, Monaco welcome Dijon, and Marseille play PSG in the standout fixture in France. PSG remain the only team to not have dropped points in their league and Marseille are high on confidence, and interesting game to watch.

Weekend Football Review

Some interesting results.

Premier League MW 9

Bournemouth 0 vs. 0 Southampton

A boring draw between the two sides as no team really took advantage of the opportunities presented to them. The result means that Bournemouth remain 6th while Southampton are 16th.

Cardiff City 4 vs. 2 Fulham

An exciting clash in Wales led to Cardiff getting their first win of the season against Fulham. Schurrle opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a brilliant long range effort but Murphy equalised four minutes later. Bobby Reid then gave Cardiff the lead in the 20th minute but a Sessegnon goal in the 34th minute meant that the two sides went into half time level. Two goals in the second half from Paterson and Harris meant that Cardiff achieved three points for the first time this season. Cardiff move out of the relegation zone into 16th while Fulham drop down to 17th as Jokanovic begins to feel pressure.

Man City 5 vs. 0 Burnley

Man City were their usual selves as they thrashed Burnley 5-0 at home. Aguero started the proceedings off in the 17th minute and Bernardo Silva, Fernandinho, Mahrez, and Sane added the rest in the second half. City increase their goal difference to +10 as they remain top of the league while Burnley drop down to 13th.

Newcastle 0 vs. 1 Brighton

Newcastle moved to the bottom of the league as a Kayal goal in the 29th minute meant that they remained winless this season. Brighton moved to 12th with the win while Benitez now begins to feel the pressure as Newcastle are not being able to win the winnable games.

West Ham 0 vs. 1 Tottenham

A Lamela goal in the 44th minute meant that Tottenham got the three points to remain 5th in the league. West Ham played well but failed to convert any chances and so drop down to 14th.

Wolverhampton 0 vs. 2 Watford

Watford returned to form in an surprising win against Wolves. Goal from Capoue and Pereyra in the 20 and 21st minute proved enough on the day. Wolves could not reply and their ascendancy in the table was brought to a halt. Wolves drop down to 9th with the loss while Watford move into 7th.

Huddersfield 0 vs. 1 Liverpool

Salah managed to score a goal in the 24th minute to give three points to Liverpool and keep them level with City at the top. Huddersfield played well but Alisson made some good saves. Huddersfield remain winless and 19th while Liverpool remain 2nd.

Everton 2 vs. 0 Crystal Palace

Two late goals in the final five minutes from Calvert-Lewin and Tosun gave Everton a proper victory against Palace. Everton moved to 8th with the win while Palace drop down to 15th with a tough set of fixtures upcoming.

Arsenal 3 vs. 1 Leicester

Arsenal continued their winning run with a late victory against Leicester. Leicester had the better of the first half and gained the lead via an own goal from Bellerin. Arsenal rallied in the second half thanks to an Ozil goal right before half time. Aubameyang came off the bench for a quick fire double to seal the points for the gunners. Arsenal remain fourth level on points with Chelsea and Tottenham while Leicester drop down to 11th.

La Liga MW 9

Levante beat Real Madrid by 2 goals to 1 as Real continued their downward spiral during the weekend. Barcelona returned to winning ways against Sevilla with thrilling 4-2 victory although Messi was injured and could be out of action for a minimum of four weeks. Atletico drew with Villareal 1-1. Barcelona return to the top of the table while Espanyol, Alaves and Sevilla follow.

Serie MW 9

SPAL beat Roma 0-2 in a shocking victory, Juventus ended their winning start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Genoa, Napoli beat Udinese 0-3 and Icardi gave Inter the win in the Milan Derby with an extra time goal. Juventus remain top of the table but their lead is cut down to four points Napoli, Inter and Lazio follow.

Ligue MW 10

Lyon beat Nimes 2-0, PSG thrashed Amiens 5-0, Marseille beat Nice 0-1, and Monaco lost to Strasbourg 2-1 in what was Theirry Henry’s first game in charge. PSG remain the only team in Europe with a 100% domestic start while Lille, Montpellier, and Marseille follow.

Weekend Football Preview

Football is back!

Premier League MW 9

Bournemouth vs. Southampton

Bournemouth thrashed Watford two weeks ago while Southampton were beaten by Chelsea. Bournemouth are flying high and sit 6th and so they should seal another win that could move them up to the top four. Southampton have not been great and could drop down to the relegation zone if they suffer a loss.

Cardiff City vs. Fulham

Cardiff narrowly lost to Tottenham last week and still seek their first win as Fulham visit who were thrashed by Arsenal two weeks ago and sit 17th. The teams are not in great phases of form but Fulham should win this game on paper. On the field it is a great chance for Cardiff to finally seal their first win of the Premier League season.

Man City vs. Burnley

Man City lead the table though only on goal difference while Burnely sit 12th. These teams drew two weeks ago against Liverpool, and Huddersfield respectively. Man City should easily win this game and it is a good chance for De Bruyne to have a run after his return from injury. Burnley have a decent defensive record and a point or more would be a brilliant visit to Manchester.

Newcastle vs. Brighton

Newcastle still seek their first win of the season as Brighton visit who sit 13th in the league. Benitez has shockingly not won a single game although his recent run of fixtures has seen Newcastle face many of the top 6 sides. Newcastle finally have a chance to seal three points and Brighton are a shaky side away from home. An interesting game but an important one for Benitez and his men.

West Ham vs. Tottenham

West Ham beat United but were halted in their tracks by Brighton two weeks ago while Tottenham sit 5th behind Arsenal on goal difference. West Ham seem to finally be clicking as a team as they begin to climb the table and Spurs have been shaky of late with only narrow wins against their opponents. An interesting London Derby that could see Spurs drop point and West Ham gain some.

Wolverhampton vs. Watford

Wolves have climbed up to 7th in the table after finding their feet in the Premier League while Watford seem to have lost their early season pace by dropping down to 9th. It is a top clash between two attacking teams and Wolves are definitely contenders for the Europa League spot if not more. Watford were thrashed by Bournemouth and a win would be great to re launch their momentum but Wolves are strong at the Molineux and it might be another win for them.

Huddersfield vs. Liverpool

Huddersfield still seek their first win of the season as Liverpool visit who have several injuries to contend with. Salah, Mane, and Van Dijk are some of the players that might not feature in the game but on paper Liverpool should still have enough to beat Huddersfield. Huddersfield have been poor and they will have channel into their defensive performances from last season to even manage a point.

Everton vs. Crystal Palace

11th vs 14th as Palace visit Liverpool to face Everton. Everton have had a mixed start to the season but have still managed to play some exciting football while Palace have been decent but have dropped off in recent weeks. Palace have an attack full of pace and a solidity in defence that on their day can lead to three points for the Eagles but Everton are in decent form and this should be a close game.

Arsenal vs. Leicester

Arsenal sit fourth and are flying high with Lacazette and Aubameyang scoring for fun in the league while Leicester sit 10th having had a mixed start to the season. Arsenal have had great attacking performances but their defence is still shaky and Leicester will have to be clinical to cause the gunners some damage otherwise it could be another three points for Emery and his men.

La Liga MW 9

Big time ahead for Real Madrid and Barcelona as they look to recover from poor form prior to the international break. Real play Levante at home as Valverde sit’s on the line on the brink of getting sacked. Barca are third and have a tricky home fixture against Sevilla. Atletico travel to play against Villarreal.

Serie MW 9

Roma entertain SPAL, Juventus welcome Genoa, Napoli travel to Udinese, and Inter play Milan in the Milan derby. A tricky set of fixtures but Juventus should make it 9 out of 9 wins.

Bundesliga MW 8

Struggling Bayern travel to Wolfsburg, high flying Dortmund travel to Stuttgart, Schalke play Werder Bremen, and Frankfurt entertain Fortuna Dusseldorf. All eyes are on Bayern and whether they can end their poor run of form which also seems to be impacting the German national team.

Ligue MW 10

Lyon play Nimes, PSG play Amiens, Marseille travel to Nice, and Thierry Henry’s Monaco take on Strasbourg for his first game in charge.

Weekend Football Review

An exciting week of football action!

Premier League MW 8

Brighton 1 vs. 0 West Ham

Brighton got back to winning ways as a Glenn Murray goal in the 25th minute was enough for the Seagulls. West Ham had been in good form and responded well in the second half but Brighton held on for the points. Brighton move up to 13th with the win while West Ham drop to 15th.

Burnley 1 vs. 1 Huddersfield

Vokes scored in the 20th minute but Schindler equalised for Huddersfield in the 66th minute to achieve a point for the winless side. Huddersfield had the better game but could not score the goal that would give them their first win of the Premier League season. Burnley remain 12th in the league while Huddersfield move up to 18th with the point.

Crystal Palace 0 vs. 1 Wolverhampton

Doherty scored in the 56th minute to give Wolves another win in the league. Crystal Palace responded well but saves from Patricio meant that Wolves held on. Crystal Palace drop to 14th while Wolves climb higher to 7th.

Leicester 1 vs. 1 Everton

Richarlison scored in the 7th minute to open the scoring for Everton but Leicester responded well and Ricardo Pereira scored an excellent goal to equalise in the 40th minute. Sigurdsson scored the winner in the 77th minute to seal the points for Everton. Leicester drop to 10th while Everton are 11th now.

Tottenham 1 vs. 0 Cardiff

Dier scored in the 8th minute and Tottenham held on for the rest of the game to gain another three points. Cardiff did well throughout the game and Tottenham failed to dominate the Welsh side. Cardiff remain winless this season and move to the bottom of the table while Tottenham drop to 5th.

Watford 0 vs. 4 Bournemouth

In an unexpected result what was supposed to be a close game became a thrashing as Bournemouth rolled over Watford. David Brooks opened the scoring and Kabasele was sent off for a second yellow in the 32nd minute. King then added two more before Wilson scored in the 47th minute to finish Watford off. Watford dropped down to 9th with the loss while Bournemouth move up to 6th.

Man United 3 vs. 2 Newcastle

Kennedy and Muto scored in the first 10 minutes of the game to make it seem like Mourinho was going to get sacked mid game. Newcastle held on to their lead up til the 70th minute but United had come out a different side for the second half and Mata and Martial scored in 5 minutes to restore parity between the two sides. Sanchez then scored a 90th minute winner to seal the three points for United. Mourinho holds on to his job until the Chelsea game but its seems like a case of when and not if.

Fulham 1 vs. 5 Arsenal

Arsenal thrashed Fulham to keep their high flying start to the season going. Lacazette scored in the 29th minute but Schurrle equalised in the 44th minute as the teams went into half time level. Arsenal blitzed Fulham in the second half as Lacazette, Ramsey, and two goals by Aubameyang sealed the deal. Ramsey’s goal in particular was magnificent team play. Arsenal move up to a familiar fourth while Fulham remain 17th.

Liverpool 0 vs. 0 Man City

In an unexpected result Liverpool and City held each other to a goalless draw at Anfield. Mahrez missed a penalty in the 86th minute as Liverpool drop down to third while City remain first and Chelsea move up to second but all are on 20 points.

La Liga MW 8

Real Madrid continued their poor run of results as they lost to Alaves after a goal in the 95th minute. Atletico beat Betish by a goal while Barca where held to a draw by Valencia. The results mean that Sevilla move to top La Liga while Barca, Atletico and Real follow.

Serie MW 8

Juventus beat Udinese 2-0, Roma won away at Empoli by two goals as well. Milan beat Chievo 3-1, while Napoli beat Sassuolo 2-0, Inter also managed to beat SPAL 2-1. Juventus are still on a winning streak as they lead Serie A while Napoli, Inter and Lazio follow.

Bundesliga MW 7

Schalke beat Dusseldorf beat 2-0, Dortmund won an amazing game as they beat Augsburg 4-3, and Bayern shockingly lost to Monchengladbach by 3 goals. Hoffenheim lost to Frankfurt 1-2, while Leipzig beat Nurnberg 6-0. Dortmund lead the table in Germany while Leipzig, Monchengladbach, and Werder follow.

Ligue MW 9

Marseille beat Caen 2-0, Monaco lost to Rennes 1-2, and PSG thrashed Lyon 5-0 as the Ligue 1 title might as well go to PSG already. Mbappe also managed to score 4 goals in 13 minutes.

Weekend Football Preview

I don’t want the International break.

Premier League MW 8

Brighton vs. West Ham

Brighton are 15th and only have one win this season as they entertain West Ham who have hit a bright patch of form as they sit 14th. Brighton always pose a threat at home but West Ham are flying high and having got four points against Chelsea and United they should win this game as well.

Burnley vs. Huddersfield

Burnley beat Cardiff last weekend as they sit 12th in the table and entertain a winless bottom of the table Huddersfield side. Huddersfield have no confidence at the moment and an away game is not a great opportunity to gain any. Burnley should get their third win of the season.

Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton

Palace have stagnated in recent weeks as they sit 13th in the league while Wolves have been flying high as they moved up to 9th. Palace and Wolves both play good football on their day but Wolves are the team in better form and could make it a fourth win of the season. Palace have the home advantage and if they do not sit back and defend they could make a difference.

Leicester vs. Everton

Leicester and Everton both got good wins last weekend as they sit 8th and 11th respectively. They both play good football and this could be a fiery match up with both teams wanting to climb up the table. An exciting game to watch.

Tottenham vs. Cardiff

Tottenham lost midweek to Barcelona after a Messi masterclass and they sit 4th in league going into this game. Cardiff are still without a win this season as they sit 19th and playing Tottenham at Wembley is not the easiest of tests. Tottenham will want to go into the International break with a good result and while Cardiff play decent football Spurs should add another three points.

Watford vs. Bournemouth

6th and 7th face off against each other as Bournemouth visit London to play Watford. Watford started the season brilliantly but have stagnated of late while Bournemouth have kept up a decent run of results. This should be a game to watch as both teams will want to create a gap between each other.

Man United vs. Newcastle

United lost to West Ham last weekend and sit 10th in the league they also only managed to draw against Valencia. Newcastle are winless this season as they sit 18th in the league. United are not great at the moment but Old Trafford is still a good place to end any poor start to the season. If Newcastle were to win their first game of the season then it would be great way to head into the International Break. United need the win as anything less than that would mean that Mourinho and United endure a tough 14 days until their next game.

Fulham vs. Arsenal

Fulham are 17th as they seek to end their poor run of form against an Arsenal side that is flying high at the moment. Arsenal have climbed up to 5th in the table but have looked shaky during their games although they always seem to end the game with three points. Fulham need to be strong at the back and if they can score a goal or two they could force Arsenal to drop points.

Liverpool vs. Man City

Liverpool not won in three and were clearly second best against Napoli in the Champions League. Man City have been brilliant in the league as they sit top of the table but their form in Europe has been suspect. Liverpool dominated City in three games played at the latter stages of last season and while City must have learned from those fixtures Liverpool will hope to inflict a similar result. Either way one of these teams will most likely end their unbeaten start to the season.

La Liga MW 8

Real Madrid travel to Alaves seeking a win after three goalless results, Atletico play Real Betis in Madrid while Barcelona travel to Valencia for the standout fixture. Barca did well to end their poor run against Tottenham but Real lost to CSKA and need a win while Atletico will hope that the rest do not gain points.

Serie MW 8

Some tough fixtures in Italy as unbeaten Juventus travel to Udinese, Roma travel to Empoli, Milan entertain Chievo, Napoli welcome Sassuolo, and Inter play SPAL away. All eyes are on Juventus who have started the season brilliantly and have already opened an 6 point gap in the table.

Bundesliga MW 7

Schalke travel to Dusseldorf, high flying Dortmund entertain Augsburg, struggling Bayern welcome Monchengladbach, Hoffenheim play Frankfurt, and Leipzig welcome Nurnberg. The Bundesliga is going through an uncharacteristically interesting season as Bayern struggle and Dortmund dominate.

Ligue MW 9

Marseille welcome Caen, struggling Monaco entertain Rennes and the standout fixture of the French weekend consists of Lyon who travel to Paris to play PSG. PSG have an 8 point gap at the top of the table and Lyon need to beat them to give the rest of the teams any hope of usurping the Parisien team.

Weekend Football Review

Exciting weekend of football!

Premier League MW 7

West Ham 3 vs. 1 Man United

United seem to be suffering from Mourinho’s third season syndrome as they suffered a defeat in London to West Ham. Felipe Anderson opened the scoring in the 5th minute with a brilliant back heel tap in although Zabaleta seemed offside when the pass was made. Yarmolenko then shot at goal in the 43rd minute and it took a massive deflection off Lindelof to make it 2 goals for the hammers. Rashford did give United a goal back in the 71st minute but Arnautovic soon restored parity with a goal in the 74th minute. West Ham move up to 14th in the table while United continue to drop as they are now 10th.

Arsenal 2 vs. 0 Watford

A Cathcart own goal broke the deadlock in the 81st minute and Ozil added a second two minutes later to give Arsenal three points. Everton 3 vs. 0 Fulham

Everton ended their winless run with a resounding win at Goodison Park against Fulham. After a balanced first half Sigurdsson gave Everton the lead in the 56th minute and Tosun added a second 10 minutes later. Sigurdsson sealed the deal in the 89th minute to move Everton up to 11th. Fulham drop down to 17th with the loss.

Huddersfield 0 vs. 2 Tottenham

Two goals from Kane in the first half were enough to guide Tottenham into the top four against Huddersfield. The first came in the 25th minute via Keiran Trippier and the second was a penalty in the 34th minute. Huddersfield remain 20th with no wins yet while Tottenham are 4th although they are only above Arsenal on goal difference.

Man City 2 vs. 0 Brighton

Man City continued their winning streak with a comfortable win at home against Brighton. Sterling opened the scoring in the 29th minute while Aguero sealed the deal in the 65th minute. Man City sit 1st now on goal difference while Brighton are 15th.

Newcastle 0 vs. 2 Leicester

Newcastle suffered yet another defeat this time at home against Leicester. Vardy opened the scoring via the penalty spot in the 30th minute and Maguire added a second in the 73rd minute. Newcastle are 18th while Leicester move up to 8th with the win.

Wolverhampton 2 vs. 0 Southampton

In what was a very balanced game the final 10 minutes saw Wolverhampton seal three points. Cavaleiro scored in the 79th minute to gain the lead and Jonny doubled it in the 87th minute. Wolves continue to climb the table as they move into 9th while Southampton drop down to 16th.

Cardiff 1 vs. 2 Burnley

Cardiff were better in the first half but all the action came in the second as Burnley sealed three points in Wales. Gudmundsson opened the scoring in the 51st minute but Murphy restored parity in the 60th minute. Vokes then sealed the three points for Burnley in the 70th minute. Cardiff are 19th while they remain one of three teams along with Newcastle and Huddersfield who have not won a game. Burnley move up to 12th with the win.

Bournemouth 2 vs. 1 Crystal Palace

Bournemouth continued their decent start to the season with a hard fought win against Palace on Monday. David Brooks opened the scoring in the 5th minute and held on to the lead going into the second half. Van Aanholt scored in the 55th minute to restore parity but Stanislas scored a penalty in the 87th minute to seal the three points. Bournemouth are 7th with the win while Palace are now 13th.

La Liga MW 7

A boring weekend in La Liga as Barcelona drew against Bilbao to extend their winless run to three while Sevilla beat Eibar 1-3. Valencia beat Real Sociedad, and the Madrid derby ended in a goalless draw. Barcelona and Real Madrid sit top of La Liga with 14 points while Sevilla and Atletico sit third and fourth in the league.

Serie MW 7

Roma beat Lazio 3-1, Inter beat Cagliari 2-0, Milan beat Sassuolo 1-4, and Juventus beat Napoli 3-1 in the top of the table clash. The results mean that Juventus open up a six point lead at the top of the table while Napoli, Fiorentina, and Inter follow.

Bundesliga MW 6

An exciting weekend of German football as Bayern lost to Hertha Berlin 2-0, Wolfsburg and Monchengladbach drew 2-2, Stuttgart beat Werder Bremen 2-1, Schalke beat Mainz by a goal to nil, Leipzig beat Hoffenheim 2-1, Dortmund thrashed Bayer Leverkusen 4-2, and Frankfurt beat Hannover 4-1. The results mean that Dortmund move top of the table with the win while Bayern drop down to second. Hertha are level on points with Bayern in third.

Ligue MW 8

St.Etienne beat Monaco 2-0, PSG beat Nice 0-3, Lyon drew with Nantes 1-1, and Lille beat Marseille 3-0. PSG sit 8 points clear of Lille who are second while Montpellier and St.Etienne follow.
