Onto the Semis!

Carabao Cup Quarterfinal

Middlesbrough 0 vs. 1 Burton

Jake Hesketh scored the solitary goal in the 48th minute to seal Burton’s progression to the Semi’s. Middlesbrough dominated possession but Burton had more opportunities and used them to win the game. Burton will now face Man City over two legs in the Semi’s.

Leicester City 1 (1) vs. (3) 1 Man City

De Bruyne returned to scoring ways by giving City the lead in the 14th minute but Leicester replied back via Albrighton in the 73rd minute. The scoreline dragged out to the 90 minutes where it was followed by a penalty shootout that City won. Leicester unlucky to lose on penalties and City for now what seems like the nth number of times progress to a round via penalties. City will face Burton over two legs in the semis although nothing is ever guaranteed even if it is straightforward.

Arsenal 0 vs. 2 Tottenham

Son and Alli scored in the game to give Tottenham a sweet victory against bitter rivals Arsenal. It was doubly special that it came in the cup and so soon after their humiliation in the league. Arsenal were poor on the day and now have lost two games in a row. Tottenham will play Chelsea over two legs in what will be another mouthwatering London derby.

Bundesliga MW 16

Monchengladbach beat Nurnberg 2-0, Dortmund lost their first game of the season as they fell 2-1 to Dusseldorf, Schalke lost to Bayer 2-1, Bayern beat Leipzig 1-0, and Frankfurt drew with Mainz 2-2. Dortmund are still 6 points clear after their loss while Monchengladbach, Bayern, and Leipzig make the top four.

Chelsea vs. Bournemouth Carabao Cup Quarter-Final Preview

Another week another cup competition.

Chelsea are involved in the Carabao Cup Quarterfinal this week against Bournemouth. Bournemouth are tough opposition although Chelsea already played them in September having beaten them 2-0 thanks to late goals from Pedro and Hazard. It was a hard fought win on the day and tomorrow should be no different although Chelsea have progressed in Sarriball and Bournemouth might find it even harder than they did earlier on.

Bournemouth were promising up until last month but in recent weeks they have dropped down to 11th in the league. Eddie Howe will most likely field a strong team as it is one of the two chances that Bournemouth have at winning some silverware coupled with the FA Cup. For Sarri it is a good chance to field the youth players but I feel that Sarri wants to end his streak of never having won silverware and so he might field a strong team against Bournemouth.

Chelsea Team Preview

Hazard picked up a slight nock against Brighton and he most likely will be rested for this game. Kepa will most likely start in goal with Azpi, Rudiger, Christense, and Emerson possibly making up the defence. Fabregas, Kante and Loftus-Cheek could make up the midfield with Giroud starting alongside Hudson-Odoi, and Pedro or Willian or we could see a false 9 with Giroud left out.

Bournemouth Team Preview

Eddie Howe should field his strongest possible lineup with Wilson being a threat upfront with his pace and strength.

Midweek Football Preview

Carabao Cup and Bundesliga.

Carabao Cup Quarterfinal

Middlesbrough vs. Burton

Probably the only game of the quarter final which involves teams which most likely wont win it. In this particular case Middlesbrough should reach the semis.

Leicester City vs. Man City

Last years winners City go against Leicester in what should be a tough game. Neither team will rest players as a cup is in play. A close game which most likely will go City’s way but you never know.

Arsenal vs. Tottenham

London Derby time once game as Arsenal play Tottenham once again. 4-2 in the league a couple of weeks ago and if Arsenal can replicate that performance then they will progress to the semis. Arsenal did lose at the weekend and with a defensive crisis plaguing the team Tottenham could exploit the gunners and learn from their mistakes. A fiery game.

Bundesliga MW 16

Monchengladbach play Nurnberg, Dortmund travel to Dusseldorf, Schalke play Bayer, Bayern play RB Leipzig, Frankfurt travel to Mainz. Bundesliga’s final fixtures before the winter break.
