Weekend Football Preview

No time to rest!

Premier League MW 15

Newcastle vs. Burnley

Bottom of the table Newcastle go again in their search for their first win of the season as they take on 18th placed Burnley. A win in this game would take Newcastle level on points with Burnley but a loss would see them go 6 points behind them so this is a massive game. Burnley are in decent form having drawn several games recently and of the two teams they look the better side. Every game is a big game for Eddie Howe now and this one is massive. For Burnley a win could take them out of the relegation zone with a game in hand as well.

Wolverhampton vs. Liverpool

Wolves are in decent form as they sit 8th in the table and have only lost one of their last five games but they take on a rampant Liverpool team who have won their last three. Lage has done a good job this season and has made Wolves solid at the back but goal scoring remains a problem for them. Liverpool just look very good at the moment with Salah and Jota running the show but there are chinks and maybe Wolves can get something out of this game.

Southampton vs. Brighton

16th placed Southampton take on 9th placed Brighton with both teams in need of a win to stop poor runs. This should be an entertaining game because both teams like to play high tempo football but a draw is more likely although not the most suitable result for either team.

Watford vs. Man City

17th placed Watford have beaten United at home and then narrowly lost to Chelsea and now face Man City at home who sit 2nd in the table having won their last four games. Watford were brilliant against Chelsea but Chelsea were equally very poor as well. City probably won’t be anywhere near as bad and will most likely win the game but Watford do have a small chance of getting something out of this game.

Leeds vs. Brentford

15th placed Leeds take on 12th placed Brentford and similar to Southampton and Brighton this should be a very entertaining game of football. I expect goals from both teams and either one can win.

Man United vs. Crystal Palace

The Ralf Rangnick era will begin at Old Trafford on Sunday with Patrick Vieira and Palace visiting the club. United sit 7th in the table while Palace sit 11th and winless in their last three. Palace should have many more points this season but their luck in the final few minutes of games as cost them several results. United will have a different style of play but it will take time for Rangnick to relay his thoughts and tactics to his team. Palace are probably the better drilled side and won’t be scared of getting something out of this game.

Tottenham vs. Norwich

Tottenham sit 6th in the table as they take on 19th placed Norwich. Tottenham are unbeaten in their last three while Norwich are unbeaten in their last four so one of the teams will be looking to end the others run. Tottenham looked a bit better against Brentford but no where near as free flowing while Dean Smith is still doing work at Norwich as well. It’s an interesting game for sure.

Aston Villa vs. Leicester

Villa sit 13th in the table as they take on 10th placed Leicester. Gerrard is looking to bounce back after that loss to City as he takes on his former manager in Brendan Rodgers. An interesting clash for sure and neither manager will want to lose this game.

Everton vs. Arsenal

Everton sit 14th in the table and are probably the worst team in the league at the moment based on form. Arsenal sit 5th in the table but have lost two of their last three games. Arsenal are doing well this season but are struggling to beat the bigger teams now Everton are a big team in poor form so it will be interesting to see which team bounces in this game. Benitez is for sure the won who needs the win but Arteta is never far away from the fans jumping on his back.

La Liga MW 16

Sevilla take on Villarreal, Barcelona welcome Real Betis, Atletico welcome Mallorca, Real Madrid travel to Real Sociedad, and Valencia travel to Celta Vigo. Some tough clashes in the league this weekend as everyone tries to catch up to Real Madrid. Atletico probably have the best fixture to take advantage of any dropped points around them while Real will want to beat Sociedad and create an even bigger gap. An interesting weekend for sure.

Serie MW 16

Milan welcome Salernitana, Inter travel to Roma, Napoli take on Atalanta, Lazio travel to Sampdoria, and Juventus take on Genoa. Some big games this weekend with Mourinho welcoming his former team in Inter to Rome. Roma have been in poor form and Mourinho will want to win this game. It is a good weekend for Milan to take advantage of any dropped points around them with Napoli also facing a tough game against Atalanta. Another interesting weekend.

Bundesliga MW 14

Leipzig travel to Union Berlin, Hoffenheim welcome Frankfurt, Leverkusen take on Furth, Wolfsburg travel to Mainz, Bayern travel to Dortmund, and Monchengladbach take on Freiburg. Its a big weekend in Germany with Bayern taking on Dortmund and if Bayern win that pretty much gives them a big advantage but if Dortmund win it just extends the titler race and makes it a bit more entertaining. The neutrals will be hoping for a Dortmund win.

Ligue MW 17

Marseille take on Brest, Lille welcome Troyes, PSG travel to Lens, Monaco pay Metz, and Lyon take on Bordeaux. PSG remain 11 points clear but face a tough trip to Lens while the rest play winnable games and will be hoping to progress further up the table.
