Weekend Football Preview

Football keeps rolling on!

Premier League MW 5

Newcastle vs. Leeds

A relegation battle as 19th placed Newcastle take on 17th placed Leeds on Friday night. Neither team has won a game yet but out of the two teams Newcastle are the ones that have impressed me recently. I think this could be a great open game and it will have plenty of goals. Almiron, Maximin, Raphinha, Bamford plenty of talent on show. One of the two teams should get their first win.

Wolverhampton vs. Brentford

13th vs. 10th as Wolves welcome Brentford. Two teams with one win to their name but teams that also play exciting attacking football. Wolves have been one of the more creative teams this season but have failed to take their chances while Brentford have fallen short since their opening day win against Arsenal. Brentford have a good defence but I think Wolves will win this one.

Norwich vs. Watford

Norwich sit bottom of the league but finally face their first game where they should expect themselves to get their first points. Watford won on the opening day but have since lost their last 3 and not been in great form. Norwich now embark on a run of good games and need to start winning if they don’t want to repeat an outcome of seasons past. I have penned Norwich to stay up and I feel they will but this is a game which they need to win.

Burnley vs. Arsenal

18th placed Burnley have no wins to their name as they welcome Arsenal who just managed their first win last weekend and sit 16th in the table. Arsenal’s win against Norwich was far from convincing and Burnley is a tough place to go to for many teams. Sean Dyche has just signed a new contract and survival is what he does best. This is a game that Dyche will feel they can win and while Arsenal have the better players I feel Burnley could cause an upset.

Man City vs. Southampton

Man City sit 5th in the league having won their last three after suffering a loss on the opening weekend. Southampton sit 14th in the table and have drawn their last three after losing on the opening weekend. Southampton have played well and were unlucky to draw last weekend but Man City should be a step to far for them. If Hassenhutl and co can leave the Etihad with another draw it would be a big point but I think City should win this game comfortably.

Liverpool vs. Crystal Palace

3rd placed Liverpool are unbeaten as they take on 11th placed Palace who are unbeaten since the opening day. Palace got their season up and running with a convincing win against Spurs last weekend. Palace were the better team all over the pitch and Edouard staked a claim to start. Liverpool played well against Milan during the week but they also showed that they can concede goals. Palace have an uphill task at Anfield and similar to Southampton if they can leave with a point or more that would be a great for Vieira and co. That said Liverpool should win.

Aston Villa vs. Everton

Villa sit 12th in the table having lost last weekend as they take on Everton who sit 4th and are unbeaten this season. Villa should have some key players back for this game like Buendia and Martinez along with the likes of Ings, and Watkins continuing on. Villa were very good and put pressure on Chelsea last weekend but the quality of Chelsea pulled through in the end. Everton will face a tough opponent but Benitez has got Everton defending well and winning games in Benitez fashion. A close game between two teams I expect to be close to each other come the end of the season.

Brighton vs. Leicester

Brighton sit 6th in the league and have continued their great on the pitch performance from last season but supported them with actual finishing this season. Leicester sit 9th and have not been at their best this season with Rodgers seeing a slow start. This should be another great game between two teams who are looking to upset the odds. Leicester have begun slow but will want to pick up the pace while Brighton will want to stay in the top half as long as possible.

West Ham vs. Man United

West Ham have drawn their last two as they sit 8th in the table but are unbeaten this season as they take on league leaders United who are also unbeaten this season. West Ham are involved in the Europa League and got a great win during the week while United went to Young Boys and lost. United and Ole will want to bounce back and of course with Ronaldo in the team they will be expected to win. West Ham though have played the better football on the last three occasions and will feel that if they can continue it for more than 45 minutes the can get something out of this game. The big loss for West Ham will be Antonio who won’t be able to play due to a red card last weekend. The result could go either way but one feels that United will probably win it by a goal thanks to the talent they have rather than anything to do with the manager.

La Liga MW 5

Atletico welcome Bilbao, Villarreal travel to Mallorca, Sevilla travel to Real Sociedad, Valencia take on Real Madrid, and Barcelona welcome Granada. Real, Valencia, and Atletico are all level on points with 10. The likes of Sevilla and Barcelona have a game in hand and a win would put them level as well. The La Liga race this season continues to be an open one but gaps should start to appear with the leaders playing each other.

Serie MW 4

Inter welcome Bologna, Atalanta travel to Salernitana, Lazio take on Cagliari, Roma travel to Verona, Juventus take on Milan, and Napoli travel to Udinese. Roma, Milan, and Napoli have had a perfect start to the season while Inter and Lazio are close to the top. Atalanta have had a slow start and Juventus have not been great at all and are still searching for their first win of the season. Serie A is also as open as ever with several teams in a transition phase or building squads to succeed and that is providing fans with interesting battles at the top. All eyes on the Juventus and Milan game for this weekend and whether other teams can take advantage of the two playing each other.

Bundesliga MW 5

Bayern take on Bochum, Monchengladbach travel to Augsburg, Leipzig travel to Koln, Leverkusen travel to Stuttgart, Dortmund take on Union Berlin, and Frankfurt travel to Wolfsburg. Wolfsburg do lead the Bundesliga but Bayern are right behind them and Bayern always start slow before steaming ahead and winning the league. For now all the other teams can do is keep winning.

Ligue MW 6

Lille travel to Lens, Monaco travel to Nice, Marseille take on Rennes, PSG take on Lyon. Some big games this weekend in France, but PSG have already steamed ahead. PSG though played during the week for the first time with Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi but drew at Brugge 1-1 being 2nd best for large parts of the game. The rest do need to start winning though because it is one way traffic in Ligue 1 at the moment.
