Club football is back!
Premier League MW 4
Crystal Palace vs. Tottenham
Palace sit 14th in the league and are still searching for their first win as they take on league leaders Tottenham. Tottenham are the only team that have won all 3 of their games this season, Tottenham have also kept 3 clean sheets. Palace are at home and Spurs while having won have not been as convincing as they should be. Palace had a stellar comeback two weekends ago thanks to Conor Gallagher. It is a London Derby so there is a rivalry and I feel with it being an early kick off Palace could get something out of the game.
Watford vs. Wolverhampton
Watford have one win in three at the start of the season as they sit 12th in the league as they take on Wolves who sit 18th in the table and have three losses to their name. Wolves have played good football though and arguably should have more points and maybe wins to their name. There have been several chances but they have failed to take them. Watford won’t be pushovers and this should be an interesting game but I think Wolves will at least manage to score in this game.
Brentford vs. Brighton
A top 10 battle as 10th placed Brentford who are unbeaten take on 8th placed Brighton who have won 2. Two teams that have had good starts, are managed by two progressive managers, and are well run clubs. This game could see a few goals go in but both teams have had good defensive records in their opening games as well. Both have brought in a couple of players since the last game but Cucurella the left back should be the eye catching one at Brighton. A good game to watch which can go either way.
Arsenal vs. Norwich
A big relegation battle this one as bottom of the table Arsenal take on 19th placed Norwich. Two teams that are searching for their first points and Arsenal still haven’t scored this season either. Arsenal have some players back and Arteta is under massive pressure to perform otherwise he could get sacked. Farke is under pressure to survive in the league this season. I actually think this could be an open game and if Norwich can get the first goal then the atmosphere could get very toxic for Arsenal.
Man United vs. Newcastle
Man United sit 3rd as they take on Newcastle who sit 17th without a win this season. Let’s be fair this should be a United win but the game will be dominated by one Cristiano Ronaldo and his 2nd debut for United. All eyes will be on the legend and really United should win this game. If Newcastle can manage a point from this game with all the narrative that surrounds it, it would be a massive accomplishment for them.
Southampton vs. West Ham
Southampton sit 13th in the table and have had a decent start to the season but they haven’t won a game yet. West Ham sit 2nd in the table and are unbeaten having had a brilliant start to the season. Southampton are beginning to get better and Broja had a brilliant international break although he might not start. This is another interesting matchup but I think Southampton can get a point or more.
Leicester vs. Man City
City started the season with a loss but scored 10 in 2 as they sit 7th in the table. Leicester sit 9th in the table but level on points. This is a big game in terms of the race for top 6 and a replay of the Community Shield fixture which Leicester were pretty good. Another top game this weekend and it could go either way.
Leeds vs. Liverpool
Leeds sit 15th and are without a win as they take on Liverpool who sit 5th and are unbeaten this season. This game should have plenty of goals and Liverpool might be without their Brazilian players as well, similar to other teams. Leeds might be without Raphinha which would be a big blow. Still the way these two teams play means that goals should be scored. An open game that can go either way.
Everton vs. Burnley
Everton are 6th in the table and Benitez has had an unbeaten start as their manager. Burnley sit 16th in the table and are yet to win a game. Two defensive teams that thrive on the counter but Everton should win this game being the better team. Burnley could make it tough but Benitez has got Everton playing his way and Benitez does get results.
La Liga MW 4
Atletico travel to Espanyol with Griezmann back as their player again. Valencia travel to Osasuna, Real Madrid take on Celta Vigo. No games for Sevilla, Villarreal, or Barcelona this weekend by the looks of it. It’s a tight race with all these teams level on points at the top of the table so at the moment it’s all about who slips up first. Atletico have the strongest all round squad having added Greizmann as well but Real Madrid and the rest have started well.
Serie A MW 3
Juventus travel to Napoli, Atalanta take on Fiorentina, Inter travel to Sampdoria, Milan take on Lazio, Roma take on Sassuolo. Juventus and Atalanta have had poor starts to the season but the rest have won 2 in 2. It’s a big game this weekend for Allegri but the rest are looking to stay at the top of the table. Similar to La Liga and the Premier League the title race is looking interesting and similar to La Liga it is open with no clear favourite.
Bundesliga MW 4
Leverkusen take on Dortmund, Wolfsburg travel to Furth, Leipzig take on Bayern, and Monchengladbach take on Arminia. It’s a big weekend for Wolfsburg who sit clear at the top by two points and could create a bigger gap with the big teams playing each other. As always Bayern are still the favourites and it doesn’t matter what happens before the New Year because Bayern only turn up in the New Year.
Ligue 1 MW 5
Lille travel to Lorient, PSG take on Clermont, Monaco take on Marseille, and Lyon welcome Strasbourg. PSG are already clear at the top and Lyon, Lille, and Monaco have started poorly this season. The title is already over by all accounts and Messi hasn’t even started a game for the club yet.
