Chelsea 20/21 Keep, Sell, Loan: Loan Players

The loan list at Chelsea is huge but with pre-season will involve quiet a few of these players while some really need to leave on a permanent basis. Others might head out on loan again. It would be nice to see what should be done with each player.

Lucas Piazon

Piazon a winger joined Chelsea in 2012 but was one of the players who suffered due to managers changing. Piazon is a quality player and showed glimpses of that at Chelsea but ended up on loan quiet frequently. Now 27 Piazon joined SC Braga in Portugal on a permanent basis in January this year. Great to see and he’s been doing well there hopefully he continues to have a good career. For Chelsea it’s one player off the loan army. SOLD.

Charlie Brown

21 year old Charlie Brown joined Chelsea’s u23 in 2020 and spent a season out on loan. Brown sealed a move to MK Dons in January this year. Good luck, he is a player with some quality. SOLD.

Danilo Pantic

Pantic joined Chelsea in 2013 and spent several seasons on loan. One of those loans was back home at Partizan Belgrade where he did really well. The now 24 year old midfielder joined Partizan on a permanent basis in June this year. A player to keep an eye on for sure. SOLD.

Jamie Cumming

21 year old Cumming is a goalkeeper to keep an eye on for Chelsea. Cumming spent his first season on loan at League Two side Stevenage and he made 47 appearances keeping 18 clean sheets. It was a very good loan season for Cumming. Kepa might leave but I don’t know whether Cumming wants to be a 2nd choice goalkeeper this season. Cumming should have a pre-season but while I would keep him as 2nd choice he probably will leave on loan to a Championship side. LOAN.

Trevoh Chalobah

Chalobah had a brilliant personal season at Ligue 1 side Lorient. The 22 year old made 29 appearances as a defender and midfielder scoring 2 and assisting 2 as well. The midfield position at Chelsea is stacked at the moment and while Chalobah offers something different I don’t think he will find space in the squad. Pre-season will be a chance to meet and impress Tuchel but I think he will be loaned out maybe to a Premier League team. LOAN.

Ike Ugbo

22 year old Ike Ugbo spent his 5th season out on loan at Belgian side Cercle Brugge. It was a successful season for him, the striker scored 16 goals from 32 appearances in the league. Ugbo is going to be one of the players who will take part in pre-season and might look to impress Tuchel with Chelsea needing a striker or two as back ups. The more likely scenario is that he well end up on loan but at a better level this time out. LOAN.

Armando Broja

19 year old striker Broja spent his first season out on loan at Vitesse Arnhem. Broja made 30 appearances for the club scoring 10 goals and assisting 2. Broja is a striker that Chelsea are monitoring closely and with Tammy and Giroud potentially leaving the club Broja might be involved in the squad depending on pre-season goes. On a personal note though a loan would be the better option and the Championship seems to be the next step for him. LOAN.

Izzy Brown

Izzy Brown joined Chelsea in 2013 and started his loan journey in 2015. With the ability to play in a wide range of attacking positions he spent 7 seasons on loan but recent seasons has seen him get injured and the most reason loan at Sheffield Wednesday was a quiet one. The now 24 year old was released by Chelsea and has joined Preston North End on a free for the upcoming season. Good Luck. RELEASED.

Jamal Blackman

Jamal Blackman has been spending seasons on loan since 2014. 7 teams on and with a dismal loan a relatively poor loan at Rotherham the goalkeeper has been let go by the club. Good luck. RELEASED.

Marc Guehi

Marc Guehi had a stunning full season out on loan at Swansea after having spent half of the 19/20 season there. As a centre back and left sided centre back he was a rock and had the ability to play out and distribute the ball as well. 52 appearances for Swansea, and he has developed in the physical league. Chelsea don’t need to shop for a centre back but if there was one loanee who I think can remain with the squad and play quiet a few games in the coming season it is the 20 year old. The opportunity to learn under the likes of Silva etc would be immense. If by chance he does leave then it should be to a Premier League club for another season on loan. KEEP.

Teddy Sherman-Lowe

18 year old goalkeeper Sherman-Lowe spent his first season out on loan at Burton Albion but it was a quiet one and he was recalled in January. The goal will be to get him a better loan this time out. LOAN.

Ethan Ampadu

It all looked so promising for 20 year old Ampadu in 18/19 when he broke into the squad under Sarri. It’s not been smooth sailing since and he has had a loan at RB Leipzig where he learned a lot but barely played and a loan at Sheffield United where he played but Sheffield United were relegated. Ampadu has the quality to play as a CDM as well as at CB and is a leader as well. I think it could be an interesting pre-season for him with Tuchel and if he does leave on loan it might be a late decision. The loan would have to be a well thought out one. KEEP?

Kenedy joined Chelsea in 2013 and has been on loan at various clubs since 2015. Recent seasons have seen him play some good football at his loan clubs and he was an important player at Granada last season. The now 25 year old could be given a chance under Tuchel in pre-season but unless he plays as a wing back it would be tough to see where he fits in the current formation. A loan looks more likely although Chelsea might want to cash in. All three options are possible but I would sell him. SELL.

Michy Batshuayi

Batshuayi had another season out on loan but it was one to forget. He barely made any starts for Palace and never really got a chance. The 27 year old striker is good but has trouble concentrating or following orders. I wonder if Tuchel could tap into something and keep him around for the coming season. Michy will be on extended holiday having been involved in the Euro’s but another loan or perhaps a sale looks more likely. SELL.

Conor Gallagher

21 year old midfielder Gallagher had another loan of personal growth at West Brom. A season of Premier League football on and he is one of the player’s I expect will impress Tuchel in pre-season. Similar to Mount he has the ability to be Mason’s backup. An eye for goal, the willingness to press, creativity the lot. I would keep Gallagher around otherwise another loan to a Premier League or perhaps abroad is an option. KEEP?

Lewis Baker

26 year old midfielder Baker has been spending time out on loan since 2015. 8 seasons later he is still trying to find his way. The most recent loan at Trabzonspor in Turkey was a successful in terms of game time. It’s time to sell Baker, a player who has never really delivered on the promise. SELL.

Davide Zappacosta

Zappacosta spent last season out on loan at Genoa where had a good time. There has been interest for the right wing back from Inter and other Italian clubs and he should be sold if the correct offer comes in. SELL.

Ethan Wady

19 year old goalkeeper Wady was loaned out Dartford but was recalled having not played much. Another loan looks likely for him. LOAN.

Ross Barkley

Barkley was loaned out to Villa for the 20/21 season and he had a strong start. Barkley formed a good partnership with Grealish and Watkins but that seems like distant memory. An injury ruled him out for 2-3 months and he has failed to regain that form or consistency. Add to that off the pitch problems and its not been a good year for the 27 year old. Barkley has the talent and he was playing well but he seems to have lost his way yet again. I don’t see Tuchel keeping him even if he does have a solid pre-season which he tends to have every summer. A loan looks likely but a sale could be possible. LOAN.

Jon Russell

20 year old midfielder Russell had a successful loan at Accrington Stanley last season. Russell’s contract ran out at the end of June but was not mentioned on the list of released players. Russell could sign a new contract and be loaned out again or he could sign for another club. LOAN? RELEASED?.

Matt Miazga

Miazga joined Chelsea in 2016 and has had 4 loans at the clubs since. The most recent one at Anderlecht got his career up and running again as he made 30 appearances for the club. At 25 the centre back is still young and after a good season could be sold. SELL.

Tiemoue Bakayoko

Bakayoko joined Chelsea in 2017 but after a strong start multiple factors led to a loss in form and he has spent his time out loan ever since. His loans at Milan, Monaco, and Napoli have been strong ones and Tuchel is said to be keen to have a look at him in pre-season. It has been reported that Bakayoko himself wants to leave with interest from AC Milan. I would keep Bakayoko because I think he can offer Chelsea something different but if not that he should be sold. KEEP? SELL.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

25 year old Loftus-Cheek, the Rolls Royce is one of those players that Chelsea fans hope it works out with. An academy graduate Ruben had a breakthrough season under Sarri but that late injury put breaks on all the development. The recent loan at Fulham was a decent one but Ruben never really added to his goals or assists. There were flashes though and one positive was that he stayed fit for most of the season. Tuchel is said to be excited to see Ruben in training and Ruben has also not given up on becoming a Chelsea regular. Its a cross roads moment for him. I really do hope that he has a strong pre-season and I would keep him. If things don’t work out though Sarri at Lazio seems to be keen on a loan. KEEP.

Malang Sarr

22 year old Sarr was bought on a free by Chelsea last summer. Sarr is someone who was highly regarded in France and had some very good seasons at Nice. A loan to Porto last season did not go as expected but he is due back for pre-season at Chelsea. Tuchel will know about Sarr and might want to have a look at him. A slight chance for him to stay with the club but a late loan could be an option. KEEP? LOAN?

George McEachran

20 year old George McEachran is the brother of Josh who was once supposed to be Chelsea’s next big academy player. George spent half of the season out on loan at Cambuur but it didn’t work out. George came back and played in the PL2 for Chelsea. There is talent there but the midfield position is stacked at Chelsea and another loan is likely for him. LOAN.

Marco Van Ginkel

Van Ginkel joined Chelsea in 2013 but has been on loan at clubs since 2014. The loans at PSV were most successful but a recent injury ruled him out for quite sometime. Chelsea took good care of him though and he rejoined PSV on loan for the 2nd half of the season. Van Ginkel was finally released by Chelsea this summer and he has since rejoined PSV on a permanent basis. Good luck and he is a quality player really hope it works out for him. RELEASED.

Juan Castillo

The 21 year old left back had an ok season out on loan at ADO Den Haag and will be part of pre-season at Chelsea this summer. There was a lot of talk around Castillo a couple of seasons ago but the promise has wained a bit. Another loan looks like a possibility. LOAN.

Nathan Baxter

Baxter had a good season at Accrington Stanley and the 22 year old goalkeeper has secure a move to Hull City for the upcoming season. One to keep an eye on. LOANED.

Victor Moses

Moses joined Chelsea in 2012 and after a good season he was loaned out. A breakthrough stint under Conte followed where he became one of the best wing backs in the league and won the Premier League. Most recently he spent his loan at Spartak Moscow where it went well for him. Spartak decided to make it permanent this summer and he has left Chelsea. Good luck to Moses and he will always be a Blue. SOLD.

Jake Clarke-Salter

The 23 year old centre back spent his season on loan at Birmingham but did not have a great time. Clarke-Salter is highly regarded with some serious competition at Chelsea in the position another loan looks likely. LOAN.

Danny Drinkwater

Drinkwater joined the club in 2017 and its safe to say its not gone well. Problems off the pitch and a big wage mean that no one really wants to buy him. Last season was spent on loan at Kasimpasa and another loan looks likely as he enters his final year with Chelsea. LOAN.

Fikayo Tomori

Tomori was one of the break out players last year under Lampard but slowly and steadily lost his place. In January he sealed a loan move to AC Milan and impressed instantly once again. Milan made the move permanent this summer and he has been sold. Tomori no doubt will be a great player and hopefully he has a great time at Milan. Good luck. SOLD.

Baba Rahman

The now 27 year old left back joined Chelsea in 2015 and spent seasons out on loan. Rahman was injured for sometime but had a recent return to consistent game time at PAOK. Is there a chance he could stay as a back up wing back maybe, given that he originated in the Bundesliga and Tuchel might know a thing or two about him. Another loan looks more likely though. LOAN.

Jake Wakely

The 20 year old centre back was playing for Brighton’s youth team in PL2 and is now without a club going into next season. RELEASED.

Malik Mothersille

The 18 year old striker spent his season out loan at Derby County’s youth team. Another loan looks likely. LOAN.
