The last home game of the season, and its a big one!
Chelsea take on Leicester who sit 3rd in the table 2 points ahead of Chelsea who are 4th. The two teams played each other in the FA Cup final on Saturday in which Leicester won 0-1 to lift the trophy. Add to that the fact that Chelsea are now only a point ahead of 5th placed Liverpool and the stakes are very high in this game. Leicester have done extremely well this season but they have one win in their last 3 games. The FA Cup will give them a boost though as they head to Stamford Bridge. A win for Leicester would seal top four for them but a loss would drag them right back into the race and even see them fall down to 5th.
For Chelsea fans will be back at Stamford Bridge for the first time since the Leeds game. Fans were back at Wembley on Saturday as well but it didn’t really go to well on the day. It wasn’t a great week for Chelsea holistically, losing to Arsenal and Leicester and the Womens team lost in the Champions League final to Barcelona. The Womens team though have had a stellar season and are domestic champions so by far the men’s team are playing catch up. If the Arsenal loss was not a wake up call then the loss to Leicester should be a two handed slap to the face to wake these players up. The fans also need to be vocal and loud and back the team for the full 90 because Chelsea have two finals in the league now. For Chelsea the positive is that it is still in our teams hands. If we win our remaining two games then we make Champions League football regardless of whatever anyone else does. Another thing that should boost these players is the video of Amartey disgracing our club crest and while Leicester have apologised the players need to respond on the pitch. The final was an even game for large parts but up front we were too pensive and hasty at times. We need to up the ante and be clinical in front of goal and regain that solidity at the back.
Chelsea Team Preview
Kepa was not at fault for our last two losses but those should be his last games for the season. Mendy should be back in goal. Christensen, Silva, and Rudiger should be back in defence. Christensen is apparently fit and Azpilicueta could start as well but I think he needs a rest. James should move back into the right wing back position with Chilwell on the left. Kante, and Kovacic should be back in the midfield. Mount, Pulisic, and Havertz should start up front. Werner could also start. The fact is that Chelsea really only conceded due to a Jorginho mistake and a long range screamer. Defence is not the issue the issue is up front and once again we have to start scoring goals. Plenty of talent on the bench if need be but this is a solid team.
Leicester Team Preview
Leicester will be without Jonny Evans but other than that everyone should be fit. I don’t think much will change in their lineup because it worked well for them. Schmeichel in goal who had a really good game. Soyuncu, Fofana, and Castagne should be the full backs. Thomas, Ndidi, Tielemans, and Albrighton should be the midfield and wing backs with Maddison, Vardy and Iheanacho starting up front. I think Leicester will be forward in their play but won’t force the issue. They will wait for gaps to appear to take advantage.
Starting XI Prediction
Well I’m not going to sugar coat things for Chelsea. Chelsea have 2 games to go in the league and they are both must wins, starting with Leicester. Leicester beat us, they disgraced us crest. Our fans will be back in the stadium, and top four is at stake. Chelsea have all the fuel they need to feed their fire, it’s time to rise up and win. COME ON CHELSEA!!!
