Midweek Football Preview

Cup competitions return!

Carabao Cup Semi-Finals

Tottenham vs. Brentford

London Derby in the Carabao Cup as Brentford visit Tottenham. Brentford sit 4th in the Championship this season as they once again push for promotion to the Premier League. Brentford beat Newcastle 1-0 in the last round and have since won both their games in the league. Tottenham beat Stoke in the last round and have since drawn 1 and won 1 in the league. It is going to be a tricky game for Spurs with Brentford being decent opposition but Mourinho is aiming for a final and possible trophy with Spurs and he will take this game seriously.

Man United vs. Man City

Manchester Derby in this game as the two big clubs in the city take on each other to see who reaches the final. United beat Everton in the last round and have since played 3 games drawing 1 and winning 2. Man City played Arsenal and have since won both their games as well. City are the reigning champions of the Carabao Cup and have made it their consolation prize each season. United are in good form though, but Ole seems to always stumble at the semi-final stage. An interesting game is setup.

La Liga (Games in hand)

Barcelona travel to play Bilbao, as they sit 5th in the table, 10 points from league leaders Atletico. A win would cut that gap to 7 although Atletico themselves have several games in hand as well. A must win game for Barcelona.

Serie MW 16

Lazio take on Fiorentina, Roma travel to Crotone, Inter travel to Sampdoria, Atalanta take on Parma, Napoli entertain Spezia, and Milan entertain Juventus in the big clash during the week. Milan and Inter currently sit clear of the rest at the top of the table with a point separating the two teams at the top. Juventus sit 10 points behind Milan which makes this game a must win for the Champions. A win against Juventus would really be a statement of intent from Milan for this season. Inter will be looking to win and capitalise on any dropped points.

Ligue MW 18

Rennes travel to Nantes, Monaco travel to Lorient, Marseille take on PSG travel to St.Etienne, Lille take on Angers, and Lyon take on Lens. Ligue 1 returns to action after a short break which has seen Pochettino join PSG as their manager. Lyon, Lille, PSG and Rennes make up the top four at the moment while Marseille and Monaco sit 5th and 6th, Marseille though have two games in hand. Will Poch be able to restore PSG’s momentum and gain yet another title or will the other teams continue their good form.
