Weekend Football Preview

The Premier League is back in full form along with Serie A!

Premier League MW 30

Norwich vs. Southampton

20th placed Norwich take on 14th placed Southampton in the first game on Friday night. Pre lockdown Norwich were struggling and the situation has not changed as they remain 6 points from safety. Southampton will be hoping to finish as high as possible as are 5 points form 10th. Norwich have some crucial players back and Farke should have had plenty of time to work out on some tactics for the remaining season. 6 points is not a big margin but Hassenhutl and Southampton are a tough test. This should be an interesting game that could go either way. Southampton won the reverse fixture 2-1.

Tottenham vs. Man United

The big game on Friday night comes to us from North London as 5th placed United take on 8th placed Tottenham. This is a massive game for both teams as a win for Tottenham would open up race for top four while 3 points for United would narrow the race down. Mourinho will want to get one over Ole and co and with Kane, Son, Sissoko and others back he has the tools to do damage with. Man United also have Pogba and Rashford back and they had been playing well pre lockdown although Ole will be fully tested starting now. It is a massive game and one everyone will have eyes on. I have a sneaky feeling Spurs will win. Man United won the reverse fixture 2-1.

Watford vs. Leicester

17th placed Watford take on 3rd placed Leicester in another big game on either end of the table. Watford are trying to avoid relegation and remain above the zone on goal difference while Leicester are 5 points from 4th and are avoiding being dragged into a race. Watford were in good form before the lockdown while Leicester were struggling but a break would have helped the away team. This should be another tight game as both teams fight for something. Leicester won the reverse fixture 2-0.

Brighton vs. Arsenal

15th placed Brighton take on 9th placed Arsenal with the Gunners reeling from their tough loss against City on Wednesday night. Brighton are just 2 points above the relegation zone and very much in the thick of things while Arsenal 3 points from a Europa League place. The two teams again have plenty to fight for and Brighton will sense blood with Arsenal having friction in their camp. An interesting game to keep an eye on. Brighton won the reverse fixture 1-2.

West Ham vs. Wolverhampton

16th placed West Ham take on 7th placed Wolves in another big game for both teams. West Ham are outside the relegation zone on goal difference while Wolves are 2 points from 5th as they search for Champions League football. West Ham were abysmal before the lockdown as Moyes was running out of ideas while Wolves had been playing well. Moyes might have had time to work with this team and this could help them but Wolves are tough opponents and this is another interesting game. Wolves won the reverse fixture 2-0.

Bournemouth vs. Crystal Palace

18th placed Bournemouth take on 11th placed Crystal Palace as the two teams fight for survival and European football. Bournemouth are in the relegation zone on goal difference while Palace are 2 points from a potential Europa League position. Bournemouth will have the likes of Brooks back who was integral last season in terms of creativity while Palace will also have a rested squad available. This game should be a close on and I sense a draw. Crystal Palace won the reverse fixture 1-0.

Newcastle vs. Sheffield United

13th placed Newcastle take on 6th placed Sheffield United with the away side feeling they have been robbed of 3 points after Wednesdays events. Newcastle are firmly mid table at the moment and fighting to finish as high as possible. Sheffield are in a race for Europe and 3 points could see them move into 5th if United lose. Newcastle won the reverse fixture 0-2.

Everton vs. Liverpool

A Merseyside Derby as 12th placed Everton take on top of the table Liverpool. Everton can move up to 10th with the win as Ancelotti will look to cause an upset against a team he knows so well. Liverpool cannot win the league this weekend after City won but they can move ever closer as the title is all but guaranteed at this stage. Liverpool won the reverse fixture 5-2 and one can expect a feisty affair.

Man City vs. Burnley

2nd placed City take on 10th placed Burnley, in this interesting game. City don’t have much to fight for but they can build upon their win against Arsenal while Burnley are only 4 points away from a Europa League place. Man City won the reverse fixture 1-4 and the result should be the same but Dyche will frustrate Pep and co for sure.

La Liga MW 30

Mallorca vs. Leganes

A relegation battle as 18th placed Mallorca take on bottom of the table Leganes. Only 2 points separate the sides although Mallorca could climb out of the relegation zone with a win. The two teams have been poor and the game could go either way. Leganes won the reverse fixture 1-0.

Granada vs. Villarreal

9th vs. 7th in another close game as Villarreal travel to Granada. Villarreal are 3 points outside a Europa League spot while Granada are 2 points behind Villarreal. Villarreal have been in good form over the last two games and they should edge out the 3 points. The reverse fixture was a 4-4 draw.

Sevilla vs. Barcelona

A big game as 3rd takes on 1st with Barcelona travelling to Sevilla. Sevilla have had two mixed results since returning while Barcelona and Messi in particular looked revived. A Sevilla win would be a big result for Real Madrid while if Barcelona won it would pressure on the 2nd placed team. Sevilla could also drop down to 4th with a loss. Barcelona beat Sevilla 4-0 in the reverse fixture.

Espanyol vs. Levante

19th placed Espanyol are 3 points from safety as they take on 11th placed Levante. Levante are strictly mid table at the moment and Espanyol have much to fight for going into this game. Espanyol won the reverse fixture 0-1.

Bilbao vs. Real Betis

10th placed Bilbao take on 14th placed Real Betis with both teams fairly mid table at the moment. Neither team is near danger or Europe but a win or a loss could change that. 5 points separate the two sides. Betis won the reverse fixture 3-1.

Getafe vs. Eibar

Getafe have been far from their best post lockdown as they sit 5th in the table 2 points from 4th while Eibar are 16th 3 points above the relegation zone. Two teams with much to fight for and Getafe should return to winning ways with 3 points. Getafe won the reverse fixture 0-1.

Atletico Madrid vs. Valladolid

4th placed Atletico take on 15th placed Valladolid for what should be 3 easy points for the home team. Atletico climbed into the Champions League spots and will look to move into 3rd now. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw.

Celta Vigo vs. Alaves

17th placed Celta take on 12th placed Alaves as Celta look to stay above the relegation zone. Alaves have been playing well and are looking to finish as high as possible. Alaves won the reverse fixture 2-0.

Valencia vs. Osasuna

8th placed Valencia take on 13th placed Osasuna in a tricky tie for the home team. Valencia find themselves a point from 7th while Osasuna are mid table at the moment. Valencia will look to bounce back from their loss against Real with a win. Osasuna won the reverse fixture 3-1.

Real Sociedad vs. Real Madrid

6th against 2nd as Real Sociedad entertain Real Madrid. Sociedad have been poor since the the return of football while Real have won both their games since. Real will look to take advantage of any dropped points by beating Sociedad. Real won the reverse fixture 3-1.

Serie MW 27

Torino vs. Parma

15th placed Torino take on 9th placed Parma with Torino 2 points above the relegation zone while Parma are 4 points from 6th. Parma won the reverse fixture 3-2.

Verona vs. Cagliari

8th placed Verona take on 12th placed Cagliari with Verona 4 points from 6th and Cagliari strictly mid table at the moment. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Atalanta vs. Sassuolo

4th placed Atalanta take on 11th placed Sassuolo in an interesting fixture. Atalanta are firmly 4th right now but would maintain their 3 point gap from 5th with a win while Sassuolo are 11th and mid table at the moment. Atalanta should win but Sassuolo have the potential to cause an upset. Atalanta won the reverse fixture 1-4.

Inter Milan vs. Sampdoria

3rd placed Inter take on 16th placed Sampdoria for what should be 3 points for the home team. Inter fell of the pace before lockdown and find themselves 9 points behind league leaders Juventus while Sampdoria are just a point above the relegation zone. Inter won the reverse fixture 1-3.

Lecce vs. AC Milan

18th placed Lecce take on 7th placed AC Milan with both teams fighting for different things. Lecce can climb out of the relegation zone with a win while Milan can move into 6th with a win. AC Milan were in decent form before the lockdown and could continue that against Lecce. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw.

Fiorentina vs. Brescia

13th placed Fiorentina take on bottom of the table Brescia for what should be a straightforward home win. Brescia are 9 points from safety. The reverse fixture was a 0-0 draw.

Bologna vs. Juventus

League leaders Juventus travel to 10th placed Bologna for an interesting game. Juventus lost the Coppa Italia on Wednesday and so the team will be looking to restart Serie A with a win. The reverse fixture was a 2-1 win.

Bundesliga MW 33

Koln vs. Frankfurt

13th placed Koln take on 9th placed Frankfurt with neither team having much to fight for. Koln are 5 points above the relegation zone and are all but guaranteed safety while Frankfurt are 5 points from 7th and so Europa League seems like a distant dream with only 2 games left. Frankfurt should win this game though. Koln won the reverse fixture 2-4.

Schalke vs. Wolfsburg

10th placed Schalke have had a dismal return to football as they find themselves well and truly out of Europe after having been in a dominant position. Wolfsburg are 6th on goal difference and will look to gain 3 points to maintain their Europa League place. Wolfsburg should win this game. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

Hoffenheim vs. Union Berlin

7th placed Hoffenheim are just behind Wolfsburg on goal difference as they look to enter a Europa League position while Union are 12th and will be happy to play top level German football next season. Hoffenheim won the reverse fixture 0-2.

RB Leipzig vs. Dortmund

A massive game for both teams as 3rd faces 2nd. Dortmund are guaranteed Champions League football for next season an the lowest they can go is 3rd. Leipzig could go above Dortmund on goal difference if they beat them but a loss could see them go level on points with 4th. Leipzig have much at stake in what should be the best game of the weekend for the Bundesliga. The reverse fixture was a 3-3 draw.

Paderborn vs. Monchengladbach

Bottom of the table Paderborn are bidding farewell to the Bundesliga as they play their final home game while Monchengladbach sit 5th and a win could see them enter the top four if Leverkusen dropped points. Monchengladbach have everything to play for and should get the three points. Monchengladbach won the reverse fixture 2-0.

Bayern Munich vs. Freiburg

A nothing game for the home team while Freiburg are just a point from Europa League football and 6th. Sadly Bayern should manage the win no matter how hard Freiburg try. Bayern won the reverse fixture 1-3.

Hertha Berlin vs. Leverkusen

11th placed Hertha take on 4th placed Leverkusen with the away team having everything to fight for. Leverkusen need to win to keep the Champions League spot while Hertha will look to spoil the party. Hertha won the reverse fixture 0-1.

Mainz vs. Werder Bremen

15th placed Mainz take on 17th placed Werder with both teams having slim chances. Mainz have a slim chance of falling into the relegation zone as they sit 5 points clear, a point would do. Werder have a slim chance of surviving relegation as they sit 6 points from safety and the goal difference is too much. Mainz should win this game being the team in better form. Mainz won the reverse fixture 0-5.

Dusseldorf vs. Augsburg

16th vs. 14th as Dusseldorf welcome Augsburg. Augsburg are 6 points clear of the relegation zone and would have to lose both their remaining games by a heavy margin to get relegated. Dusseldorf are 5 points from safety and would have to win both their remaining games to stand a chance. A tough game for both teams. Augsburg won the reverse fixture 3-0.
