Weekend Football Preview

Non stop action!

Premier League MW 14

Newcastle vs. Man City

Our first game of the weekend comes from Newcastle as 3rd placed Man City visit the 14th placed Magpies. Newcastle were on a decent run of form until last weekend’s loss while City beat Chelsea last weekend to move clear into 3rd. Newcastle have been tough to beat this season and they have already taken points off some big teams as well. City drew against Shakhtar midweek with a rested squad and so they should have enough for a win.

Burnley vs. Crystal Palace

7th placed Burnley take on 13th placed Palace who are winless in their last 5 and have lost the last three games. Palace started the season well but have had some tough fixtures in recent weeks. They had a good performance against Liverpool last weekend and now have a good set of fixtures to take points from. Burnley have been playing well under Dyche this season and have pushed into potential Europa League contention. This should be a tight game but Burnley have the home advantage.

Liverpool vs. Brighton

League leaders Liverpool take on Brighton as they look to continue their unbeaten start to the season. Brighton are 12th and have lost their last two and while they could make it difficult for Liverpool, the Reds should scrape through with a win by the time 90 minutes are up.

Tottenham vs. Bournemouth

Mourinho is having a nice start to life at Spurs with 2 wins in 2 and he looks to continue the run with a visit from Bournemouth. 10th and 11th respectively the winner can create a gap between the other and this should be a tough game. Bournemouth have been in decent form but have lost their last two and Mourinho is looking to gain ground. A close game but one which Spurs should win.

Southampton vs. Watford

19th vs. 20th as the two bottom teams take on each other. Southampton are winless in their last 5 and Watford have managed 1 win in their last 5. The pressure is already on Flores after taking over at Watford a few weeks ago and their is news he could be facing the sack if poor results continue. Hassenhutl is under less pressure because Southampton have shown that their is potential. The more organised team should win but both managers are under pressure.

Norwich vs. Arsenal

18th placed Norwich finally managed a win last weekend against Newcastle and now entertain Arsenal who are 8th and winless in their last 7 games in all competitions. One wonders why Emery is still in charge with Arsenal being run so poorly and as of now it looks like Emery will be taking the team to Norwich. Norwich have a good squad and have shown glimpses of quality at the start of the season. There is no reason for Norwich to overestimate Arsenal and so I expect the home team to at least pick up a point or more.

Wolverhampton vs. Sheffield United

A top 10 clash between two teams strongly fighting for Europa, as 5th and 6th go head to head. Wolves had a midweek game in the Europa League which they drew while Sheffield have had a week of rest. These teams are unbeaten in their last 5 and honestly I feel like this game would be a draw. The teams are strong defensively and have bright managers running them. An interesting game which should end level.

Leicester vs. Everton

2nd placed Leicester take on 16th placed Everton who’s manager Silva is under increasing pressure to perform. Rumours are that Moyes is waiting on the flanks and a loss against Leicester could spell the end for the manager. Leicester are flying high having won their last 5 games and do not seem to be slowing down. A win for Leicester is expected that could see Moyes come in.

Man United vs. Aston Villa

The final game comes from Manchester as 15th placed Villa travel to 9th placed Man United. United drew their last game and lost in the Europa League to Astana albeit fielding a team with several youth players. Villa finally managed to win last weekend and now could go level with United if they win at Old Trafford. United are there for the taking and hopefully Villa can inflict damage on Ole and his men.

La Liga MW 15

Real Madrid travel to Alaves, Sevilla take on Leganes, and Atletico take on Barcelona in a top four clash. Atletico need to win to go level on points with Barcelona and Real Madrid and Sevilla will be hoping to go clear of the two teams with wins of their own. La Liga is fairly interesting this season with teams finally gaining form ahead of the festive period.

Serie MW 14

Juventus take on Sassuolo, Inter take on SPAL, Milan travel to Parma, Napoli entertain Bologna, and Roma travel to Verona. Home games for Inter and Juventus as they race at the top while the rest play catch up to the two teams. Juventus and Inter both won their midweek games in the Champions League and so should be in fairly good form heading into these games.

Bundesliga MW 13

Schalke take on Union Berlin, Dortmund travel to play Hertha Berlin, Leipzig travel to play Paderborn, Bayern play Bayer Leverkusen, Monchengladbach play Freiburg, and Frankfurt play Mainz. Top clashes in the Bundesliga as its the most entertaining league this season in terms of goals and race for the title. Dortmund are the team under the most pressure while manager less Bayern are doing fairly well.

Ligue MW 15

Marseille take on Brest, Lyon travel to Strasbourg, Lille take on Dijon, and Monaco play PSG. The race for 2nd is tight in Ligue 1 as Monaco could climb up to 6th with a win. PSG need to lose a few to make the title race interesting as they are currently running away with it again.
