Weekend Football Preview

Another big weekend of football!

Premier League MW 6

Southampton vs. Bournemouth

10th vs. 9th as both teams coming off a win go head to head. Southampton have been in good form since their two losses to start the season while Bournemouth beat Everton last weekend but have been all over the place. Southampton are strong at home but Bournemouth have a good defence and so this should be an interesting clash.

Leicester vs. Tottenham

A top 6 clash as 5th placed Leicester welcome 3rd placed Tottenham with both teams level on 8 points. With the race for top four being so tight Leicester looked in good form but could not beat United while Tottenham demolished Palace. Leicester will be looking to prove that they can mix it with the bigger teams while Tottenham drew against Olympiakos mid week and look like they can be beaten.

Burnley vs. Norwich

14th vs. 13th as Burnley winless since opening day go up against Norwich who last weekend beat City at home. Norwich have stuck to their ways and shown results that prove that they can stay in this league but Burnley are quite defensive and so will be harder to crack. Burnley need a win while Norwich will look to continue that good form.

Everton vs. Sheffield United

Newly promoted Sheffield United have one win to their name as they travel to Merseyside to play Everton who lost to Bournemouth last weekend. 15th placed Sheffield United have shown that they are solid at times but Everton who are 11th will want to bring some consistency in their performances and win a game.

Man City vs. Watford

2nd placed Man City having lost their first game last weekend entertain Watford who fought hard last weekend to dominate Arsenal in the 2nd half and earn their 2nd point of the season as they sit bottom of the table. City have a bit of a defensive crisis at the moment with a makeshift pairing of Fernandinho and Otamendi at the heart of it. Flores will know that for Watford much like Norwich this game is a free hit and a point or more would be a massive win for them. City need the win but can Watford upset them.

Newcastle vs. Brighton

Brighton are winless since opening day as they sit 16th and travel to Newcastle who are 18th. The teams are looking for wins to kickstart a slow season with both having new managers at the helm. It should be a tight clash and could go either way.

Crystal Palace vs. Wolverhampton

12th placed Palace entertain 19th placed Wolves with both teams having suffered heavy losses to Tottenham and Chelsea last weekend. Palace have been better because unlike Wolves they do not have Europa League to deal with while Wolves have suffered the Europa League malaise as every team does. Wolves lost to Braga on Thursday and Nuno will be looking to win this game and bring positivity to their camp while Hodgson will search for a win as well.

West Ham vs. Man United

West Ham have played well in recent weeks as they sit 8th while United scraped a win against Leicester and barely won against Astana on thursday as they sit 4th. West Ham are at home and have an attack and midfield that can punish United. It will be interesting to see whether Pellegrini and co can do what Leicester could not and beat a beatable United side.

Arsenal vs. Aston Villa

Arsenal entertain Villa in a London Derby as Arsenal sit 7th while are 17th. Villa had shown promise but have lost gas in recent weeks while Arsenal fell apart against Watford last weekend. Arsenal are beatable but at home against a Villa side who look lacklustre at the moment odds are that the Gunners will win.

La Liga MW 5

Atletico entertain Celta Vigo, Barcelona travel to Granada, and Real Madrid travel to Sevilla in the biggest clash of the weekend in Spain. Barcelona will be looking to break into the top four while Sevilla will look to maintain their unbeaten start and stay top of the table against a lacklustre Real side. Could this be Zidane’s final straw it is yet to be seen.

Serie MW 4

Juventus welcome Verona, Milan play Inter in the Milan derby with Conte looking to maintain his winning start, Napoli travel to Lecce, Roma travel to Bologna, and Atalanta play Fiorentina. A tough weekend in Serie A with all top 6 teams facing tough fixtures.

Bundesliga MW 5

Bayern welcome Koln, Leverkusen entertain Union Berlin, Leipzig travel to Werder Bremen, Monchengladbach play Dusseldorf, and Dortmund travel to Frankfurt. Bayern will be looking to break into the top 2 while the rest will look to maintain their good starts with Leipzig, Bayern, and Wolfsburg being the only unbeaten teams.

Ligue MW 6

Marseille play Montpellier, Monaco travel to Stade Reims, Lille play Rennes, and Lyon entertain PSG. An entertaining weekend of French football, Monaco are 19th looking for points while Lyon will look to beat PSG and give the rest of French football a chance to topple the giants.
