A flurry of goals!

Premier League MW 38

Brighton 1 vs. 4 Man City

Brighton got the games of to an unexpected start as Murray scored in the 27th minute to give them the lead. The hope for Liverpool fans was fleeting as the goal served as an alarm for City and Aguero equalised a minute later. Laporte then gave City the lead 10 minutes later while Mahrez, and Gundogan added 2nd half goals to seal a 2nd consecutive title for Pep and City. Brighton had already secured safety and finished 2 points above the relegation zone in 17th. 

Burnley 1 vs. 3 Arsenal

After a goalless first half Arsenal woke up in the 2nd and ended their domestic season on a high with a surprising away win at Burnley. Aubameyang gave Arsenal the lead in the 52nd minute, he then doubled the lead two minutes later. Barnes got one back for Burnley in the 65th minute but Nketiah scored in extra time to seal the win for Arsenal. Burnley end the season in 15th while Arsenal finish 5th, 1 point behind Spurs who are 4th. Arsenal’s Champions League hopes are not over as they face Chelsea in the final of the Europa League. 

Crystal Palace 5 vs. 3 Bournemouth

A goal fest in London as defensive errors led to a feast for fans. Michy scored the first in the 24th minute and then doubled the lead in the 32nd minute. Simpson then scored an own goal to give Palace a 3-0 lead in the 37th minute. Lerma scored one for Bournemouth right before half time. Ibe then made it 3-2 in the 56th minute. Aanholt then restored the two goal deficit in the 65th minute which was then reduced to 1 by King in the 73rd minute. Townsend then sealed the deal in the 80th minute. The win made sure that Palace finished 12th while Bournemouth finished 14th. 

Fulham 0 vs. 4 Newcastle

Newcastle were rampant in London as Shelvey, Perez, Schar, and Rondon all scored to seal a win on the final day. Newcastle were 14th but finish 13th while Fulham were already relegated and finish 19th. 

Liverpool 2 vs. 0 Wolverhampton

Liverpool ended the season on 97 points thanks to goals from Mane, but it was not enough as the City win meant that they finished 2nd 1 point behind City. Wolves had already sealed 7th and finish best of the rest while Liverpool look forward to a Champions League final in Madrid. 

Man United 0 vs. 2 Cardiff City

Ole’s car lost all tires and gas and ran into the ground as United lost at home to relegated Cardiff on the final day. Mendez-Laing scored goals in either half to seal a good win for Warnock and co as they head back to the Championship. United finish 6th after all the hoopla surrounding Ole. 

Southampton 1 vs. 1 Huddersfield

Redmond scored for Southampton and Pritchard for Huddersfield as both teams settled for a point on the final day. Southampton ended the season 16th while Huddersfield finish bottom having won only 3 games all season. 

Tottenham 2 vs. 2 Everton

Dier gave Spurs the lead in the 3rd minute as they looked to end their domestic season on a high but Walcott equalised for Everton in the 69th minute. Tosun then gave Everton the lead in the 72nd minute but Eriksen got a point for Tottenham in the 75th minute. Tottenham end their Premier League campaign with a whimper as they finish 4th while Everton finish 8th after a good final few weeks for Marcos Silva. 

Watford 1 vs. 4 West Ham

Noble scored 2, while Lanzini and Arnautovic scored one each for West Ham. Deulofeu did get a consolation goal for Watford. Watford end the season 11th and out of the top 10 after having lost their last three games. West Ham finish in the top 10 having won their last three games. 

La Liga MW 37

Barca beat Getafe 2-0, Valencia beat Alaves 3-1, Real Madrid lost to Real Sociedad 3-1, and Atletico drew with Sevilla 1-1. The top 3 stay the same while Valencia move into 4th. Valencia and Getafe are level on points with Valencia +1 in goal difference while Sevilla are two points behind them. 

Serie MW 36

Atalanta beat Genoa 2-0, Lazio beat Cagliari 1-2, Milan beat Fiorentina 0-1, Napoli beat SPAL 1-2, and Roma beat Juventus 2-0. Juventus and Napoli remain where they are as Atalanta move into 3rd 2 points ahead of Inter in 4th. Milan, Roma and Torino remain close to Inter as two weeks remain. 

Bundesliga MW 33

Leverkusen drew with Schalke 1-1, Werder Bremen beat Hoffenheim 0-1, Stuttgart beat Wolfsburg 3-0, Dortmund beat Dusseldorf 3-2, Monchengladbach beat Nurnberg 0-4, Bayern drew with Leipzig 0-0, and Mainz beat Frankfurt 0-2. Bayern remain 2 points ahead of Dortmund as the title race goes to the final week, Leipzig are comfortable in 3rd. Monchengladbach move into 4th for now level on points with Leverkusen. Frankfurt drop into 6th as they also stand a minor chance. 

Ligue MW 36

PSG beat Angers 1-2, Nimes beat Monaco 1-0, Lille beat Bordeaux 1-0, and Lyon beat Marseille 0-3. PSG, Lille, and Lyon are the top 3, St.Etienne are 4th as they are 4 points clear of Montpellier who are 4th. St.Etienne though are still not mathematically assured a place in the Champions League for next season. Another defeat for Monaco means that they are now 17th and only a point above the relegation zone.
