Weekend Football Preview

Back to league football!

Premier League MW 22

West Ham vs. Arsenal

London derby to start of the weekend as Arsenal travel to West Ham in an interesting game between the two teams. West Ham are 10th while Arsenal are 5th in the table. Arsenal returned to winning ways in GW 21 as they comfortably beat Fulham at home while West Ham drew at home to Brighton. The teams are in good form although both are susceptible to defeats and so this could be a tight game. Arsenal beat West Ham 3-1 in the reverse fixture.

Brighton vs. Liverpool

Liverpool continue to their march towards the title as they look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season against Brighton who are 13th. Liverpool lost a tight game against City and so reopened a title race and Brighton away is always tough as they are a good team at home. A tight game but Liverpool should manage to win their first game after two successive defeats in all tournaments. Liverpool just managed to beat Brighton in the reverse fixture 1-0.

Burnley vs. Fulham

16th vs. 19th as Burnley take on Fulham at home. Burnley have recovered some form in recent weeks and are on a winning run that could be extended as Fulham have been poor even after bringing in Ranieri. Fulham’s defence lets them down and while it could be scoring game Burnley should be able to seal the tree points. Fulham won the reverse fixture 4-2.

Cardiff City vs. Huddersfield

17th vs. 20th Cardiff had been gaining some form but have dropped in recent weeks although a visit by Huddersfield should not be a massive threat to them. A win is expected for Cardiff. The reverse fixture was a goalless draw.

Crystal Palace vs. Watford

London derby part 2 as Watford travel to Selhurst Park. Watford are 8th while Palace are 14th. Watford are in a great patch of form but an away trip to Selhurst Park always seems like a difficult task. Palace have been inconsistent of late and one never knows what to expect from the side. The game could go either way. Watford beat Palace 2-1 in the reverse fixture.

Leicester vs. Southampton

7th placed Leicester take on 18th placed Southampton. Leicester did so well to beat Chelsea and City in successive games but lost to Brighton and then won against Everton. Leicester tend to not show up against teams in the lower half of the table and with Southampton in a manager bounce of sorts this could be a game that could go either way. Leicester won the reverse fixture 1-2.

Everton vs. Bournemouth

11th vs. 12th, both teams have been strong but Everton lost last gameweek and Bournemouth have been poor recently. A tough game for both teams and another one that could go either way. The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw.

Tottenham vs. Man United

The game of the weekend comes on Sunday as Ole faces his first tough test in charge of United as they visit London to play Tottenham. Tottenham have been a great patch of form as they sit 3rd in the table and they beat Chelsea in the Carabao Cup midweek, although it was perhaps luck that was on their side. United are on a great winning run but Spurs is their toughest test and the players will hope to show the fans that their form is not just reserved for the weaker teams. A good game in store and one that I hope is a draw. The reverse fixture was a 0-3 win for Tottenham.

Man City vs. Wolverhampton

When Wolves play the top 6 sides then it is a game to watch as Wolves travel to Manchester to play City. City have been scored 16 goals in their last two games although they came against Rotheram, and Burton so…. Wolves have taken several points of the top 6 sides and beat Liverpool in the FA Cup last Monday to cause another upset. They sit 9th in the table and if City were to drop points once more it could make it a easier task for Liverpool. A very interesting game to watch. The reverse fixture was a 1-1 draw.

La Liga MW 19

Alaves travel to Girona, Atletico entertain Levante, Barcelona welcome Eibar, and Real Madrid travel to Real Betis. These games will bring up the half way point for La Liga, whether Barcelona’s lead at the top will be cut is the question.

Ligue MW 20

Lille travel to Caen, Lyon entertain Stade Reims, PSG travel to Amiens, Monaco play Marseille in Marseille. PSG have practically won Ligue 1 so it is really a fight for second.
