Midweek Football Preview

First football of 2019!

Premier League MW 21

Everton vs. Leicester

Two teams that suffered unsuspected losses go head to head in the first game of 2019. 10th vs. 8th in what should be a close and entertaining game. The reverse fixture was won by Everton but considering recent results this one is hard to call.

Arsenal vs. Fulham

Arsenal kick off 2019 with a London Derby as they look to recover from their thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Fulham won only their second game under Ranieri but they will face a much tougher task at Arsenal. Arsenal should win the game but their defence is far from good and if Fulham hold on they could manage a surprise result. Fulham were thrashed by Arsenal 1-5 in the reverse fixture.

Cardiff City vs. Tottenham

Cardiff start their New Year with a visit from Tottenham who don’t seem to know what they are fighting for. Spurs will want to return to winning ways and not drop further down the table but Cardiff is a tough place to go to and they are in decent form at the moment. Spurs should have enough to win the game but only just. Tottenham only just beat Cardiff 1-0 in the reverse fixture.

Bournemouth vs. Watford

Bournemouth and Watford both start their New Year in search of important wins after not such great results at the end of 2018. Bournemouth really need something to smile about but Watford are a team who perform well and they could inflict more damage on Eddie Howe’s side. Watford were thrashed by Bournemouth in the reverse fixture 0-4.

Huddersfield vs. Burnley

20th vs. 18th as Huddersfield really need to have a better 2019 if they want to survive for next season’s Premier League. Burnley ended 2018 on a good note and they will look to continue it in this game. Burnley should win the game based on current form. The teams drew the reverse fixture 1-1.

West Ham vs. Brighton

West Ham ended 2018 on a sour note and will want recover against Brighton and considering Brighton are not great away from should make it a win for West Ham. Brighton won the reverse fixture 1-0.

Wolverhampton vs. Crystal Palace

Wolves will look to build on their win against Tottenham by beating Palace who lost to Chelsea at the weekend. Palace tend to do better away from home this season and they could make it tough for Wolves. A tough game to call with both teams beating big opposition in recent weeks. Palace lost the reverse fixture 0-1.

Newcastle vs. Man United

Newcastle will want to have a better first half of 2019 than the second half of 2018 but Benitez will be cursing himself that he did not beat United under Mourinho. United are flying high at the moment and having already beat Newcastle 3-2 in the reverse fixture they could make it two out of two.

Man City vs. Liverpool

The game of the season potentially as 2nd placed City take on table toppers Liverpool. Liverpool had a great December as it saw them open a 7 point gap between them and City and City were abysmal in December. Liverpool could make it 10 points between them City and that is why City will want to win this game at all costs. The reverse fixture was a goalless draw and if that result were to repeat itself Liverpool would be the happier of the two sides.
