Chelsea 0 (5) vs. (4) 0 Lyon Pre-Season Review

No goals and thank fully pre-season is over.

Sarri named a changed lineup from the one I was expecting to start. Rather than go through a game review I will just skip forward to a player review because there was no real moment to talk about. Bulka started although his defence was made up of Zappacosta, Christensen, Ampadu, and Emerson. Bulka was decent and made plenty of good saves and now that pre-season is over I hope he gets a loan move that could see him play regularly for a team. Zappacosta was decent but failed to impress, Christensen was great and had an important game to show Sarri why he should start, Ampadu was also great and while he did make a couple of mistakes he was the player that impressed the most. Emerson showed improvement from his previous showings but will need to continue. Our midfield was made up of Loftus Cheek, Drinkwater, and Bakayoko, out of the three players we can expect that at least one of the three will not be at the club come deadline day. Loftus-Cheek impressed although lacked the end product to finish the chances he created Sarri though was impressed and stated that he could be a useful player for the blues this season. Drinkwater did the simple things right although there is still a question mark over his future. Bakayoko was largely missing during the first half and managed to have some decent moments in the second although while he was playing rumours came out that he could be heading to Milan on loan so we will have to wait to see. The front three of Willian, Tammy, and Moses did not really do anything and made no case whatsoever for any of them to start ahead of the first choice players, personally I hope Willian is gone in the next two days preferably for Martial.

The second half saw wholesale changes with the midfield being substituted first. Jorginho, Kante, and Barkley were introduced in what could be one of our starting midfield trio. The difference was clear as Jorginho dictated the play allowing Kante and Barkley to make forward runs. Barkley still needs to work to learn the system but Kante was already making tackles and almost scored a goal via a beautiful Jorginho pass. The front line was then changed as Hazard, Giroud, and Piazon were brought in. Hazard having had only one training session under his belt lacked the pace or fitness and we could see Hudson-Odoi start for the first game against Huddersfield. Giroud was a passenger and I personally think Morata, and Michy should be given more of chance. Piazon will most likely head out on loan. The last to change was the defence and goalkeeper as Rob Green, Azpi, Rudiger, Cahill, and Alonso were brought in. Rob Green played it safe and managed to save the vital penalty in the shootout in what could be his only appearance for Chelsea although you never know. Azpi was great as was Rudiger. Cahill and Alonso might as well be fighting for their spots this season.

The second half with all the changes brought a greater urgency and pace to the game but scoring goals remains a major problem area as we only managed three of them in the five pre-season games. With one and a half days to go we need to sign a right winger of repute whether that will be Martial, Zaha, Fekir one can only guess. Sarri stated that it would take two to three months to get the groove of Sarriball and it probably will although lets hope we still manage to win those initial games otherwise we could be playing a game of catchup. Transfer Deadline Day and Huddersfield await!
