Newcastle 3 vs. 0 Chelsea Review

That is not how the season was supposed to end.

Seven days ago Chelsea had beaten Liverpool at Stamford Bridge and all seemed to be on the up as it looked like Chelsea had a glimmer of making the top four. Seven days later Chelsea finish 5th after losing by 3 goals against Newcastle on the final day of the season.

Conte selected Christensen instead of Rudiger and Barkley and Emerson instead of Fabregas and Alonso. The changes did not work as Chelsea put in one of the worst performances of the season, a performance that was completely devoid of any will to fight. Gayle opened the scoring and Perez added two more in a humiliating defeat.

Post match Conte stated that if Chelsea played like that in the FA Cup final next week we will be nowhere near United by the end of it. Conte was also asked whether this was his last league game for Chelsea and he replied by saying that he did not think so.

At the beginning of the season Conte stated that it should not be another season in which they finish 10th place and it was not in that we finish 5th. A season review will be posted once the FA Cup final has been played. The table does not lie and Chelsea have well and truly been 5th best this season.

Whether Conte stays or goes is up to the board and my view on that is very simple, stick with the manager this time rather than sacking him and going on with this cyclical process. Only four teams can finish reach the league and for this season Chelsea and Arsenal are the ones that miss out, its not the end of the world and by no way is it the end of Chelsea Football Club.

A final to play and a hope for a positive finish to the season await what comes follows in the summer will be discussed at length as I am sure Chelsea will be active.
