Bayern Munich 1 vs. 2 Real Madrid SF L1 Review

After what was a scintillating Tuesday, Wednesday was a cagier affair.

Madrid and Bayern both fielded strong lineups though Madrid chose to keep Benzema and Bale on the bench while Bayern started with Lewandowski, Robben, and Ribery. Bayern dominated the whole game and had 17 shots at the Real goal. Kimmich gave Bayern the lead in the 27th minute and the Bavarians continued the onslaught. Marcelo equalised for Real right before half time in what was a very counter attacking display.

Real are known for their scintillating football but this game highlighted the fact that Real could also grind out results. Navas made plenty of saves to deny Bayern and Madrid got the lead in the 56th minute when Kimmich misplaced a pass at the halfway line and Madrid counter attacked with Asensio finishing the play.

For Bayern it was simply a game in which they were not clinical enough. Teams can not win football games based on possession and shots on goal. Real now take a two goal away advantage to Madrid although the game not even remotely done. Bayern will need to be more clinical if they are to reach the final, while Real might need to show their attacking prowess at home.
